Merry KEZ Xmas

No surprise here as the all Ho-Ho-Ho format made KEZ Numero Uno in the Fall Book. KFWYEye is number twoest, while KT'R trails the newstalk battle at number tenest. Kinda interesting that 5~Fifty outdraws both 92~Three and 6~Twenty combined. Ooooooo...check out the rise of no longer Free FM KZON! The rest, just about what Nurse Jeff and I expected.

Looks like Talk in general was down slightly, with both KTAR and KFYI slightly dipping. Of course, KEZ has to get those listeners from somewhere.

92.3 FM is reaping the troubles of not positioning themselves well. Presumably, they will eventually settle on an identity. Until then, they are stuck in the middle of the pack. We all know KFYI is the conservative talker; KKNT is KFYI's much smaller brother; KPHX is the liberal talker and KFNX is... KFNX. The stations that really don't know who and what they are suffer in the ratings. KXAM and KFNX are globs of goo and have the ratings to prove it. KTAR FM is all over the place positionally. Are they news, are they talk, are they both? If they were not a heritage talker, they would have KKNT-like numbers. Pick an identity and stick with it.

It must be good to be Clear Channel in Phoenix. They have something like six or seven stations in the top 10. Of course, the real war is in the billing numbers. Those would be a lot more fun to see.

Congrats to KTAR AM by the way. They seem to have a solid ratings performer. Getting above a 2 share consistently for sports talk is not bad. Of course, having the D-Backs and Suns does not suck either.

...having legendary calls that are constantly being promoted by their FM counterpart and the best AM signal in the market sucks even less!

The station will always have numbers. But right now, it's just a bad product. Being second on the block always stinks, and KFYI already owns the "tight sphincter" audience.

The morning show is consistently entertaining, and Wolfly is a star. The afternoon jerkfest keeps on keepin' on because they've been around for 10 years. Burns and Calvisi are excellent. All in all, a pretty good station.

I think 92.3 is news and talk. KFYI does conservative talk. 92.3 should position itself as news and talk. When they used to raise a stink about being local and live nobody cared. It didn't help they had Ted Simmons and Pat Mcmahon on the air.
