Meruleo Media Sells Los Angeles TV Station To Church of Scientology

I still wish Gene Scott and Wally George had guested on each other’s shows at KDOC…
I probably wrote this before on RD, but....I remember watching one of Wally's shows. Someone from the audience came up to the mike and started complaining about Gene Scott. Wally stopped the person, saying "Gene Scott is a friend of mine! Get off this stage!" I think I have that show on audiotape somewhere....

Likewise, I (vaguely) remember Gene Scott saying a couple of good words about Wally during one of his sermons....

As far as guesting on each others shows....about a year ago, when ChatGPT came out, I told it to write a story where Gene was a guest on Wally's show. The result was downright uncanny....

In case anyone actually cares, the FCC has approved the KWHY sale (last Thursday) and it now awaits consummation.

I wonder what's going to happen to their Spanish-language Independent station when KWHY becomes Scientology Network?

Will their Spanish-language Independent station might move to KBEH since this station is still owned by Meruelo Media Group?

Any suggestions?

I think it is likely that the 22.1 programming will end up on 63.1 and the rest of the subchannels will be consolidated on the KBEH portion of the channel 4 signal. I would guess that anyone not paying for carriage will be dropped.

According to Trip's excellent RabbitEars.info site, here is the current subchannel lineup:
22-1 "Canal 22 Los Angeles"
22-2 "Canal 22 Los Angeles"
22-3 Infomercials (Spanish)
22-4 "S TV Antidad"
22-5 [Blank]
22-6 [Blank]
22-7 [Blank]
22-8 [Blank]
63-1 Canal de La Fe
63-2 Heartland
63-3 Retro TV
63-5 [Blank]

I cannot receive KWHY/KBEH off-air as their choice of low-VHF channel 4 in the repack rendered them invisible to my TV, even after rescanning. But I note that 22.2 is a simulcast of 22.1 so that's something that won't have to move.

Since Meruelo Media Group has a lot of layoffs what's going to happen to their stations (KDAY, KDEY, KXOS, KLOS and KPWR)?

What's going to happen to Meruelo Media Group?

Will these stations be sold by new owner?

Any suggestions?

I can see it. Everything you listed is correct as of this moment including the simulcast, except 22-4 through 22-8 aren't there at all anymore (tuning any of them makes the TV snap to 22-1). There's also no 63-5 (snaps to 63-1), nor is there a 63-4. 63-1's channel name shows up in the EPG as "Univers" and there's a Spanish program airing right now co-branded with Radio Vision Latina FM 96.7 Los Angeles.

Edit: Something on-screen on 63-1 just promoted universalchurchusa.org, which matches the "Univers" EPG thingy.

I know It's still showing it on the rabbitears.info

Channels 22-4 through 22-8 aren't there anymore and there's also no more 63-4 and 63-5 it keeps showing it on rabbitears.info.

Now that KWHY is about to become Scientology Network sometime before the end of the year, KWHY Spanish Independent station might possibly move to KBEH since it's still owned by Meruelo or they could switch to a Multicultural station known as EMT Media since KNET became a Christian Programming known as Daystar and besides the LA Market is without a Multicultural station.

That article forgot to mention that it was the home of A&M Records for decades as well.

And prior to that CBS, which filmed "Perry Mason" there from 1962-1966. The network bought it from Red Skelton, who started his show there in 1959, and bought it in 1960. Red wanted more room and moved to Television City.

Before Skelton? "The Adventures of Superman" was filmed there when it was Kling Studios---the company Charlie Chaplin sold it to in 1953.

In spite of having "Church" in their name, L. Ron Hubbard started the movement out as primarily a pseudoscience group with his take on the human mind. He was also a science fiction writer. Not really in the same league as what would be defined as "Christian" owned media such as EMF, VCY and the rest.
But just as qualified as the fisherman, tax collector and others of various vocations who wrote the New Testament.
