MESSAGE FOR NBC : Regarding Leno

This is what I would do.

1. End prime time programming at 10:55 PM. Local NBC affilates can now start their News up to 5 minutes early to get a headstart on the competition if they choose. Otherwise affiliates can air 5 minutes of spots and start News at 11 as usual. Bottom line: Affiliates will have the option to start News anywhere between 10:55 and 11 PM. It's up to them. They'll still get their 35 minutes of local time before Leno comes on.

2. Start Leno at 11:30 PM on the dot. Also to get a head start over the competition.

3. Move Conan to 12:30 if he will stay at the Network and let him do the show from Los Angeles. It would be unfair to make him move back to New York again. Yeah you'll have to pay a penalty for moving Conan past 12:05, but hey.... I really see no choice. It would seem ridiculous to only have Leno on for a half hour. If you want to keep Jay around so much than you really should give him the the whole hour. You know that is what he really wants.

4. Fallon would be ok at 1:30AM.

5. Carson Daly at 2:30 and Poker after Dark at 3 AM.

That's what I would do.

I think what I'd do is end network programming at 11/10 Central. Let the local affils have their late nights back, and either program infomercials or sign off at 10:30. They might make more revenue that way, or save some money. The viewer numbers for late night aren't that great, anyway.

Network TV is becoming increasingly irrelevant, and as those who fondly remember Carson and Koppel begin dying off, you'll see a trend toward more fragmented OTA broadcasting (or increasing relevance on Internet/broadband/mobile).

I don't think I'd end primetime at 10:55, because anybody who chances to switch over after an ABC or CBS program (like "Gray's Anatomy" or "CSI:Whatever") will miss the first five minutes of the news. Of course, if an ABC or CBS affiliate's newscast sucks that badly with those kind of lead-ins, they deserve to lose the last five minutes of their viewership. But it won't make any difference in the ratings.

In fact, in regards to my earlier opinion, NBC is becoming increasingly irrelevant. The only NBC network that seems to make any sense these days is Universal Sports, and that's until they start injecting politics into that channel, too. NBC, The Weather Channel, MSNBC, even CNBC, all seem to have a certain political leaning, and with bathtub boy (aka Keith Olbermann) as part of the "Football Night in America" crew, my personal NBC viewing now consists of Sunday Night Football, the Wild Card playoffs, and ... that's about it.

here's the problem, with Jay leaving at 10 PM, his show moves to 11:35 PM for 1/2 hour then Conan/Jimmy from 12:05-2:05, what happens now to lame duck Carson Daly. Of course now they have Poker After Dark at 2:05 AM and then Jimmy Fallon's repeat at 3 AM or other local programming before Early Today leading to in some markets, 4:30/5 AM Morning News. I know that in the Portland, OR and Seattle, WA Markets, KING-TV (KING 5) and KGW air Early Today before the 4:30 AM Morning news. I think with Carson Daly's show being much more of a documentary now instead of a regular show with the band they once had. I feel that this move would be that Carson may be on either ABC or MNTV. MNTV may need something in order to boost their persona since I think since their Telenovela days in 2006, it has somewhat improved when MyNet picked up WWE Smackdown. Carson Daly would be a great fit for My Network TV.

IF Carson Daly ends up being cut entirely, he's not going to ABC, nor MNTV. ABC isn't going to trade down from a resurgent Nightline for Carson Daly--for Leno, sure, they were interested in the idea, but Daly? Not a logical choice. And as for MNTV....no, they're not expanding to late night.

If Leno and Conan both stay on NBC, I see no reason why Carson Daly and Poker After Dark couldn't stay as well. NBC could just get rid of that 1 hour repeat of Fallon's show.

Now that Leno's 10 PM show is cancelled, why don't they have someone else host it until the Olympics, kinda like how they put Danny Bonaduce on as host of Stephanie Miller's late-night show for the last few weeks after it was confirmed that show would be cancelled. Hey, maybe a Bonaduce could get better ratings at 10 PM than a Leno. You never know.

If NBC Universal really wants to keep Conan in the fold, or at least from doing NBCU harm with another media company:

Option #1: Conan O'Brien @ 11pm/10c on USA or Bravo, with complete creative reign sans broadcast censors. Same pay and production budget (since NBC openly bragged about how cheap "The Jay Leno Show" was). Perhaps a Conan-exclusive 'Sunday Tonight Show' on NBC during football's absence?

Option #2: Parlay the reported $40 million penalty for taking Tonight Show away into a guaranteed agreement for O'Brien's Conaco production company, with or without NBC-U exclusivity.

Option #3: Some mix of #1 and #2. Forget the ratings--Conan you're getting screwed. Ask for it all!

Conan will most likely leave NBC. That's pretty much a given at this point.
Unless they give him a really good writing job of some sort...

Personally, I think Conan going to FOX would be the best for everybody all around. Fox has the young audience and they like to push the edges a lot more. Conan could really do a good show if they didn't try to make him into Jay Leno.

Conan moves to FOX, Conan gets more freedom with his show, Conan's show excels, FOX wins again.

Opinions are like Ass**les. Everybody has one. I Like watching Jay, Conan, and Jimmy. They make ME Laugh, and that's all that matters to me. What's right for me, may not be right for you. That's just how the world works.

Keep local news at 11, Leno at 11:35, and dump Conan. Conan is not funny. Find something good to go at 10.

Leno sucks....... of couse we're talking about NBC... the network that let "Chuck" come back but got rid of Southland.
NBC needs a new bus driver. Manglement is bad, but that goes without saying.

This all gets confusing for me, as I live on central time, and the times that get thrown around here are obviously all eastern times. But that's okay. I still get it all one hour earlier than the rest of you (in relation to the rest of my day). So I don't have to stay up as late. But the best bits get "sound-bited" (is that a word?) on youtube and elsewhere, so maybe I really don't need to stay up and watch it after all!
