Years ago, The San Diego Union had world class radio coverage.
Until sometime in the 80's they listed each jock shift on all
AM & FM stations. Under then Radio-TV editor Don Freeman, he
often wrote great articles on local personalities.
As FM became for the most part "continious music", with card
reading jocks, the practice was stopped. This is also the
case with the LA Times, and many other papers. You will
find that in some cities there is still a radio editor,
but radio I feel is as much to blame as the papers. Freeman,
was no slouch by the way. He might interview Lee Marvin
on a Tuesday, in Thursday's paper he wrote a feature on the
local radio scene.
