Metro financial re-engineering

AngieC said:
KKGN and KNEW traffic (and reports for all the other stations in the cluster) are provided inhouse by CC's Total Traffic Network. I'd wager it's that kind of competition that figures into Metro's downsizing.

Really? Gosh, I had no idea. This explains why I don't hear the voices repeating elsewhere. (Well, I don't listen to other CC stations much, though...)

I had no idea that the traffic situation was such a money maker that Metro/Shadow would even have competition.

Newsperson responds:

Yes there is lots of competition including Traffic Pulse (aka traffic.com) in Emeryville. Back in 2005 they wooed away the Bonneville stations. They also picked up channel 11.

In 2006 KGO-TV left at the end of its contract and in 2008 KTVU left as well.

In December 2006 KGO/KSFO signed a new 3-year contract with Metro. As far as I know they need to maintain the same level of service except if there is a decline in ratings. A few months ago there was an afternoon drive Metro plane shift eliminated. This could have been a mutual decesion.

However I do not expect for any news or traffic delivered by Metro (to KGO/KSFO) to ever be recorded!

Any thoughts from others on this?

The Sacramento office will close either at the end of this year or early next year, at the latest. A couple people have been tentatively offered a transfer to S.F., if slots are available for them. 5 people were cut from Sacramento on Friday, one was placed "on call," and 8 were retained. The workload there has doubled on the rest that are left.

Sorry to stick my nose in here, I just happened to catch this thread. I'm in the Columbus, OH and wondering where these "hubs" will be located. Any ideas?

I was from the Sacramento office and it will be gone.Myself along with several others got our walking papers. The rest will be gone after the first of the year.I was there 4 1/2 years and have no idea what i am going to do now.We were a very there,I was also in charge of sending requested airchks to clients. My D O was the best boss I ever had.I have never worked with a nicer crew and I wish them all the best.

I just read today's press release. It talks about a restructing charge of 20 to 24 million in the third quarter. Who are the recipients of that money?

In San Francisco I always thought the office space was way too big because half of it is unused. Will Metro relocate to a smaller office in the City?

S.F. must remain as one of the 13 regional hubs, so who do the close in the west?

Could Sacramento disapear? What about Fresno, San Deigo and Las Vegas? I know Phoenix is a major hub so it could serve some California cities.

As far as the planes are concerned it sounds like their days are numbered.

Any local news on the above?

If I were you I would start looking for another gig.Ohio will be no more in the near future.I hope your D O will at least give you a heads up if he can.Mine was unable to here in Sacramento. He got the papers from corporate i got a phone call to come in and that was it.They kept a few people and they had the least experience. This Was NOT my D Os idea.I wish you the best of luck.

San Francisco's Metro used to sound good, now in the non-drive hours it sounds like high schoolers. It just really sounds rank. I'm happy they kept Joe McConnell and Kim McAllister. They make the operation sound classy.
