Metro folds it's tent

Chuck Douglas: I apologize for hurting your feelings. That was not my intent. I was attempting to try to find humor in an unfortunate situation. One that that I've been in myself a few times. My point of reference was something that happened to me a long time ago. I was in the Atlanta bus station, yes bus station, and heard a guy with an incredible voice making announcements. I thought "I don't stand a chance in radio if THIS guy is making announcements in the bus station!" So, while I do apologize, there is no shame in working at the airport. Best of luck to you and all of your co-workers.

Yeah...I can't wait to hear them pronounce "Olentangy", "Lancaster" and "Pataskala".

Don't forget the one that really trips 'em up: "Scioto"

Or an accident on Tussing Rd

That will sort out the locals.

The airport is hiring?

I think it's time for Les Nessman to put the "Fish Eye In the Sky" back in the air. All the WKRP fans will get this joke. ;D

alans613: You're still wrong about the need for traffic reports, but at least now we're clear about what you're wrong about. ;D Seriously, though the reason you'll hear that "roads are fine", etc. is that most stations schedule their reports at certain times to establish them as benchmarks. Well, that's the theory anyway. As a former traffic reporter, saying that the roads are clear isn't such a good idea unless you're looking at a live camera shot of that particular road. Things happen fast. If there's nothing going on and you have to fill 45 seconds or so, fall back on construction work that's going to tie things up. By the way, you're Less Nessman line put me on the floor!!!

NotMe: "former traffic reporter"? Where'd you work?

Chuck Douglas: Thanks for the kind words. Hope everything is well wth you. Glad to see you're still lurking in the shadows.

All: Here's an update. Metro got a short reprieve from the big axe. They're keeping the office open another week. They're going to be a bit crippled since the State up North is coming in this weekend to collect some vital equipment, but, if anubody can make something out of nothing, it's Johnny Hill, who's been Metro's producer for the past several months. (on and off for the past 150 years!). To my estimation, he's the best in the biz and if Clear Channel or one of the TV stations doesn't pick him up in a hurry they are truly missing the boat. I know at least one TV station who will be lost in the weeds without his regular input. I don't know whose side they'll be on now. As far as I know, I along with Marty Bannister are done as of yesterday. Bob Kennedy, Bruce Kline, Chris Nash, and Johnny will remain for the week. Johnny: There should be enough coffee to get you through the week!

On a personal note, I'm not one to walk away from the place and leave a path of destruction in the form of pilfered company property or sabotage of any kind. Well.... not entirely. The default (home page) website on the Metro computers is Westwood One's Online Affidavits page. The next person to fire up my old workstation, and I hope it's someone in Detroit, will be greeted by the home page of a website called "YouStinkLikePoop.com". It's a small thing, but it makes me feel better.

One More Serious note: Yesterday not only wrapped up an 11 year affiliation with Metro (in two parts), but was probably the last day of a 41 year rado career. The next time I get up at 4 AM, I'm going fishing! There were times in my career when I zigged when I should have zagged. I've enjoyed some small degree of noteriety which is both good and bad. Overall, I'll miss it. I'll be taking some old friends with me like Dan Wilson, Dan McKay, Sgt. Pepper, Manny Moore, and Stan Jackson. Probably a few others as well. Those were all air names I've used in the past. In the old days at Metro you were encouraged to use a different name on each station. If any of you end up selling real estate and need photography or related services (like "propane and propane products"), visit my website at DanSwander.com. Thanks, all. Switching now to "lurk mode" :'(

As to Chuck, we all know Craig and Pam work hard to get what they can. But when they lost the plane, they also lost the ability to check something out with a birdseye view.

Now they have 80+ cameras and me in the mobile unit during rush hours. Pam gathers, Craig reports, I give them info from the road and if the situation merits I do live MARTI reports from the scene. The daily heartache on 670 couldn't be covered by the plane due to no-fly regs near the airport.

Al,

Understood, thanks. Sometimes I forget to laugh.

LOL Dan they always use to do the same thing in the old days at Metro in Indianapolis. i think of all the originals at Metro in Indy only person i ever recalled rarely using other air names is Indy Legendary DJ and PA of the Pacers Reb Porter. i think he used a fake name on one station and still made a mistake and ID'ed as himself and all but got banned from that one station for it

Plus looks like Metro Detroit is doing the Samething Metro Chicago did with the Indy Office kept giving a week or two reprieves till they were ready

To all the folks in Columbus, my heart goes out to you. I myself will be saying goodbye to a third of my life with this company when they finally close this office and make the move to Miami. There are other opportunities but nothing can get moving till this company decides when they actually want to do the closure. I hope you guys got good severances!!! Good luck my fellow traffic reporters

So, today (6/19) is Metro's last day? Is that why no one seemed to know about the ramp closed downtown until 4pm? I guess there was a ramp closed from some time in the morning....?

As we reported a while ago, Metro's Cleveland office closed on the 15th.

One thing we did find out for the Mighty Blog: The company is leaving some people behind here in Northeast Ohio, with three on-air staffers "embedded" at affiliate studios.

Former DO Terry Groden is now "embedded" at Salem, where he does news and traffic for WHK/1420 and WFHM/95.5 "The Fish".

Veteran local traffic voice Linda Dawson is now "embedded" at CBS Radio, where she does traffic for three of the cluster's stations (AC WDOK/102.1, Hot AC WQAL/104.1, Alt-rock WKRK/92.3 - not sure why not on classic rock WNCX/98.5).

Long-time sports update anchor Jeff Thomas is now "embedded" at Good Karma's WKNR/850 "ESPN 850" on his usual shift. (Former news guy Chris Coleman is filling in for him this week, then exiting Metro.)

Is anyone "embedded" out of Metro Columbus? It doesn't sound like it from this thread...

I know out of the Indy office when it Closed back in march Mindy Winkler was Embedded at Entercom Indy. And also Richard Ramsey and Darren Emery was i think Embedded at Cumulus or WTHR-tv. But those 3 were the only saved from the Indy Office. Listening online to Sunny 94.7 they still Have Bill Taylor. but i dont know if worked for Sunny or was employed by Metro working exclusively for sunny. I think the Cincinnati Metro office also closed on the 15th of the month because Cincy has a whole new crew of reporters save Bruce Davis who seems to be Embedded at Radio one's WMOJ and WIZF.
