METRO TRAFFIC

Change is never easy, but for us smaller "Metro" stations, the new changes at Metro traffic will certainly be felt. Here at WCBK, we started our first day with extremely generic recorded reports, ending many years of live reports. My thanks to Scott Baker for nearly a decade of being a part of the morning show with me here. Also thanks to Steve Day, Don Carson, Bill Remika, Tom Berg and all the others, even as far back as Stephen Cox. I realize that our little 6000 watt station isn't as important to Metro as other stations, but those live reports were important to many of our listeners here in our little corner of the world. What's next? "Live via satellite from the Westwood One corporate headquarters, here's a look at (insert station name here) traffic......."

Yes. I think you're right. Except it won't be satellite (too expensive). They'll do it over the internet.

I've worked with Steve in the afternoons after Don Carson left Metro and will miss the local feel especially the runaway pig on SR 37. Filled in for Scott Baker several times and Scott great to work with you too. Your station is a tribute to your broadcaster owners who are not "Frequency Spectrum" flippers of broadcast property.

All the best,

Steve Day-Metro Traffic Indianapolis

I am already doing this-- sort of. Six full timers doing 10 cities from one hub via the internet. I deliver a live report locally and then record a :30 for a cluster 600 miles away and send it on the WAN. The one report airs on five stations because there is a generic tagline. "From the State Farm Insurance traffic center, I'm..... "

Sadly, gone are the days of one reporter for one or two stations. You can't interact with the jock, you can't add personality to the report, it's just the facts, send it and move on. The suits have turn the stations into factories. :'(

The last I heard, and it's been a long time ago, Steven Cox was working for the Speed Channel.

Who's still there? So Chicago will report Indy traffic? I can hear
the recorded traffic on some and still LIVE on others. Are they
strictly traffic only now...with no reports to Metro Source (news
service) I feel for those that are gone now. I don't know how
they do those split shifts. Thanks John, Don, Reb... Darren??
Wendy, Matt, Scott...Tom... good luck finding a new job.

That's a look at Indy traffic... (from Chicago?)
