MeTV leaving WZME Bridgeport in October

WZME Bridgeport is dropping MeTV on October 4 to become an affiliate of MeTV's sister network Heroes & Icons, which BTW already has an affiliate in the NYC DMA (WNYW 5.4). You think WZME is trying to target Hartford?

Heroes & Icons signed on this past weekend in NYC on WWOR 9.4 (replacing Mundo Fox). According to the WZME wiki page their switch from Me TV will take place on 10/11. I don't think WZME is trying to target Hartford. They are switching affiliates because Me TV is already carried in NYC on WJLP 33.1.

The WZME OTA signal doesn't make it anywhere near Hartford, and I know Comcast in Hartford County doesn't carry them at all. Besides, WZME is much better off staying right where they are in the NYC DMA. They have cable/satellite coverage on Verizon Fios and Directv throughout NY, NJ, and CT. I believe for the past few years they have been trying to move their transmitter to NYC.

A few hours ago, the station posted this on the WZME TV Facebook page: "Our corporate office and sales staff decided to change networks, because another Me-tv affiliate (WJLP in Middletown NJ) signed on in the NYC market. They did want to lose any advertising money to WJLP and they don't think they will see any profit just being a Connecticut only station. Unfortunately, this was a business decision that will effect our Me-Tv viewers in CT."

Ultimately, viewers in Fairfield County will have to hope that WJLP is added to local line-ups. I don't see why it wouldn't be since it's probably a must-carry. For the rest of Connecticut, one of the Hartford-New Haven will have to add it to their sub-channels. The only good news is that the national feed of Me-TV is offered state-wide on AT&T/Frontier channel 136.

WZME is up to their old tricks with infomercials. Last night I tuned in at 11pm to watch NYPD Blue and an infomercial was airing.
