MeTV on WCVB 5.2......... color bars and tone right now.

I was noticing the color bars and tone on Channel 5.2 (WCVB). It looks like MeTV is coming to 5.2 shortly as the PSIP is already in place for MeTV. I am wondering what if WMFP 62.1 is going to stay with MeTV or what will happen? Since 62.1 is a must-carry, I wonder if they will still keep it on line for must-carry status or will there be a change on both 62.1 and 62.1 . Any thoughts?

My guess is either 62.1 switching to Antenna TV (hopefully! ;)) or 62.1 and 62.2 switching places, though it seems absurd to me for them to keep MeTV, since their xmtr is in the Boston area and they are licensed to Lawrence, which WCVB and WMUR both cover nicely. ???

WMFP is , ironically, on the old channel 5 tower in Newton. About 3 miles (give or take) from the Richland tower where the current WCVB-TV transmitter is.

wcvb's wikipedia for what its worth now has the metv boston logo on it as well.

WMFP falls under the must-carry rule. So Directv and DISH carries WMFP on the Boston locals package. It would be in Weigel's best interest to try and keep ME-Tv on WMFP 62.1. WCVB 5.2 is a sub-channel which neither of the sat companies carry. So the most exposure ME-TV can get is keeping it on both WCVB and WMFP.

At least, when WMFP goes for hours of infomercials at 10:00 PM (pre-empting "Svengoolie" and other MeTV shows at that time period) we'll be able to FINALLY watch MeTV in its' entirety on 5.2. I am sure that 5.2 will be available for cable subscribers on the digital tier. I've already made 5.2 a "favorite" on my OTA decoder. I still question the logic of WMFP throwing infomercials in Prime Time (after 10:00 PM). For me, the infomercials are a turn-off, just IMHO.

Technically carriage of 62.2 which seems to be RTN with OUT infomercials could satisfy the must carry rule.

i sent wcvb an email today askingt about 5.2 MeTV...

It's what works for them in their revenue model. ( I know I've been the most vocal and militant about how they do things and again, I apologies for been too fervent and negative at times.) but I actually see the logic of how they do it.

They have infomercials between 10pm-2am when everyone else still has programming, and have the overnight programming on 2am-6am when most of the broadcasters (and many cable-casters) have infomercials. Same with the other day-parts weekdays and weekends They put infomercials where eyes can see them where there's not many on, and use the overnight time when most channels have infomercials (or network news with the case of some of network affiliates)to run programming.

Now the $64,000 Question is what the heck will happen with WMFP come the first - overlap with CVB.2 (Several overlap markets have more than one MeTV outlet.) Would allow WMFP to add some additional infomercial time. Move RTV back to 62.1 with the national line-up going back to the 12noon-12pm (or a customized feed) You know the new TNN launches soon, and Boston is already supporting one Country sub-channel - perhaps it could support 2?

As long as we don't lose RTV, I'm fine :)

I don't see RTV going back to the main ch. Right now they are on the national feed. I have a feeling they have something else planned. We'll know when they make the switch next month. I'm still hoping for Antenna TV!

I'll take some Antenna TV or any other network than 24/7 infomercials.

I don't mind infomercials I do understand its a business and the need to make money. I just change the channel when they come on. I don't get outraged because of it. Life is too short to be upset about a TV station showing infomercials instead of the network programs. I do get a kick out those who do though. ::)

I asked WCVB if Fios would be adding the channel to its lineup. Here is their response:

Thanks for your email about MeTV on WCVB 5.2. We are working with Fios to make it happen. Feel free to contact them to make the suggestion so they know viewers want the channel.
Tune in for MeTV Boston from WCVB on October 1.
