MeTV Providence/New Bedford on WLNE 6.5 in HD

WLNE is a logical place for it. It’s the only one of its subchannels that is in 780p (even the main ABC channel is only 780p). Thanks for letting us know. Definitely an upgrade over WCVB when comparing the two.

You mean 720p. Excellent move by the station.
 
Is there a reason why WCVB and WMUR broadcast their primary channels in 1080i when ABC is natively 720p?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have their .1 (ABC) and .2 (MeTV) channels both in 720p?

It seems like a waste of money to have to upconvert and downconvert two OTA signals (and interlace them)!

My guess is because ABC is only a portion of their programming. They can have their news, and syndicated programming in 1080i. But I kind of agree, that if they did 720p maybe we could get some more HD subchannels in Boston. I can almost never receive WLNE on the North Shore.
 
1080i is a dying video format. Any video streamed online requires a "progressive scan" format.

Watch any videos from WCVB or WMUR's YouTube channels and you'll notice they're all 720p. Comcast and YouTube TV carry 720p feeds of both WCVB and WMUR. It's possible the two stations send 720p feeds directly to the providers then convert it to 1080i for over the air viewers. I hope so - it would be way better then converting up to 1080i then back down to 720p (plus the ABC network programming remains in its native state).
