Mexican TV DX

Someone mentioned on another thread how Mexican TV audio has been skipping in on 87.7Mhz lately. Does anyone know when (or if) Mexico is going to make the transition to DTV?

I have a 13" (analog) color TV that was given to me after last year's switchover. "It don't pick up nothin' no more, but you can have it if you want it." It's a nice early 1980s GE model with built in dipoles which (amazingly) have not been bent or broken off.

I set it on Channel 2, turn the volume down, and just leave it on all day. Mexico and Canada are easy to log now since all the domestic stations have abandoned channels 2-6.

Hi

I believe that it will not happen for at least 6 years for Mexico, maybe 10. It's just not feasible right now for them.

Fred Cantu is here on r-i. He could well be the go-to guy on this.

Living in Florida, I'm really enjoying no longer seeing WPBT on channel 2 analog! Bring on the DX! BTW I believe that Canada will convert after August 2011....not sure if it will be done all at once, or incrementally.

Somewhere, I have a cassette tape of the late night sign off of WESH-TV 2 in Daytona Beach. The cool thing about it is that I recorded it from Minnesota when I was 16! The even cooler thing is that our local PBS affiliate was also on Channel 2. I managed to null them enough to receive WESH from about 1,500 miles away! This was the summer of 1980 when the current sunspot cycle was at it's peak. There's some fade and bounce, but I have the entire sign off with Legal ID and translator ID's!

Channel 3 is open today. At 4:20PM, I'm hearing a program in English about Michael Jackson. I'm guessing this is a Canadian station which I haven't been able to ID yet. The signal is fairly strong. No problem hearing it on my Yupi MVT-9000 with a basic telescoping antenna.
