Miami/Ft. Laud ratings out today.....without showing numbers...

Without posting numbers......

3 of the top 5 in Miami are English.

LITE flat, Majic way up, Beat down, Y down, BIG way up, and WKAT not even showing. Mega steady but Beat and Y down.

Surprisingly, WPB station Sunny and WRMF up, WFTL (850) steady, and JNA down.

Who had their predictions about the next ratings period? It's here; getting interesting now.

With KAT not even showing, a flip BACK to Classical would be wise, eh?

Someone must be doing something right at Majic. I've been listening in over the past few months, and have heard the evolution from "Oldies Radio" to the "Best of the 60's and 70's" to "The Greatest Hits of the 60's and 70's."

Here's an excellent example of how updating oldies can work (if, of course, that was the case for the ratings jump, which I assume it was).

Keep in mind who the PD of Majic is...Bob Hamilton, who's been in this business a VERY long time. He's worked at some powerhouse stations in the past, including KHJ and WFIL. He's not one to let the grass grow under his feet, or do things just because that's they "way they were." Congratulations Bob!

Last year when I was on vacation down in South Florida, I listened to Majic 102.7 and I thought it was a great station. Lite FM does a good job with the AC format, and Big is an ok classic rocker. I heard that WKAT was doing a good job with the news format. Maybe they should be given a chance. How did KAT do when it was classical music?<P ID="signature">______________

Majic streams in WMA at majic1027.com; it's changed a bit since then. Same for LITE at litemiami.com, but no change.

WKAT as Classical peaked somewhere in the high 1's; mid 1's were normal, and as a news talker, less with *.*, and then downhill from there. Now it doesn't even show.

1) These are trends, not the "book." It's Feb/March/April
2) WKAT hasn't been doing the format long enough to make any impact. (When did they flip formats?)

I know these are just trends; I would love to see the actual book but since I'm not in the business per se (i.e. student whose learning-in-progress via this board)......I'll be happy with what I can read now....

I believe they flipped sometime in Jan; s/n 954 can verify this bit of info.

Uh maybe it would be wise if Cox flipped 93.1 back to Classical. The Classical format got better numbers with little or no promotion.... I know, I know the demographics were not sellable but maybe a little marketing and promtional savy could have changed that.

Still I always thought that Miami having a 100KW commercial Classical music station was cool.

Flip back WKAT?

No.

Classical on AM makes about as much sense as rap on FM.
Classical WKAT was doomed from day one. (Even without Dee.)

Keep in mind that talk on WKAT is not a new idea.

WKAT "The KAT never sleeps" was talk in the 60s and 70s. With almost all LOCAL talkmasters (their terminology) plus Jean Shepherd's syndicated show from WOR. Craig Worthing ( http://www.univox.com/radio/worthing.html ) was there, too!

I believe they flipped January 31st at 6PM.
