Miami has 2 less 80's stations !

FINALLY were moving out of this very much played out decade just like the 60's and 70's !!! 93.9 MIA is today- 90's and Now, and 97.3 the Toast is South Floridas best Hits.. none have an 80's monicer on their facebook or web pages anymore.
before we had about 4-6 80's/ variety based stations including the couple from west palm and the one from key largo
EDIT: the coast still needs to update their main webpage and remove the 80's variety.. on their facebook its diffrent

ok, now how about a rock or all modern dance/ edm station plz ! that would make me quit my XM subscription for good :)

BTW for those who do want dance music in Miami tune to 93.1-2 on your HD radio or at www.party931.com www.facebook.com/party931

Wrong. Only "MIA" cut the 80s music. The 80s still get a decent amount of airplay on The Coast, Easy 93.1 (80s Soft Rock), SHE 103.5, Big 105.9 (80s classic rock), Magic 102.7, and 101.5 LITE FM (80s pop).

Honestly, The Coast and MIA are trainwrecks.

This market sucks now. When I moved here, 97.3 The Coast and 93.9 MIA were in my opinion the best stations I had ever listened to in the country. I use to stream them day and night while living in Missouri and couldn't wait to finally move here to hear them over the air and go to their awesome events.

Well I finally get here and both companies RUIN them. No more 80s weekends, no more disco, no more classic Miami 80s freestyle. In my opinion, its a sad day in Miami radio. She is the only somewhat decent station and they quit playing some of the good stuff that they started with earlier this year. No more Adele!!!!!! Put some peter Gabriel on geez

Sad in my opinion, very sad. Mia was by far the best dance station I ever heard ever period

I second that, they were doing so well IMO and should've left it as it was...Freestyle & Disco are staples of Miami's heritage
and I'm also very sad to see that going away....Time to find another Rhythmic AC station on iHeartRadio,
but it's getting harder and harder to find something like MIA (WMOV is now Christmas music) my choice is now
KHJZ 93.9 Jamz in Honolulu, they still play plenty of freestyle on there ;)

That sucks I like MIA old sound. Now it sounds like MYFM here in LA. If your looking for another Rhythmic AC try KFBT 103.7 The Beat in Fresno or KQOD Mega 100.1 in Stockton. They stream on iHeartRadio. I noticed they have Rhythmix on the app again but it wont play. Also KISQ 98.1 Kiss FM San Francisco has a great 80's show Fridays 6pm til 12am. They play a little Freestyle mixed in with New Wave hits.

After what MIA did, I went out and bought an HD radio just to do that.......I have been and will only be listening to 97.3 HD2 for the rest of the time I live here, however long that is.

I do Like what CC did to She 103.5 adding "more 80s" but....did they take the cool ones away now? I haven't heard Walk The Dinosaur lately...Was really enjoying that stuff

john i really simpathize with you but this is practically 2013 you can download any 80's era tune for pennys on i-tunes or the internet for that matter for free if you do a good search, radio is stagnant with the same old music... we need stations that play much more varietys of more modern music livelyier stations... the 80's/ easy listening need to go, their cool but one station will do in the listenable area not 5-7. one of each will do, same goes for hip hop/ rap and R&b we have 5 of those and the latin stations let me not go there. i am fairly young and all my friends refuse to really turn on the radio becouse of such old music all the kids nowadays just download their music and listen to anything they want at anytime without commericals or annoying dj's. all of the older people liek yourself nned to move into this new century radio is dying if not allready dead !

^ 2 points....

(1) YMMV, but as a 53-year-old, I noticed "easy listening" being phased out *already* in the early 80s, as far as what was in the top 40 of the time. What is now Coast, in the 70s & early 80s, was a station called "A1A" (WAIA). They played Adult Contemporary, about 40% of their songs being currents. As time went on, I noticed the music getting rougher/harder (as Adult Contemporary tunes genrally became, all over the country)....around 1983/84 I pretty much "gave up" on the modern stuff. Sure there were still softer songs out there later on (Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Celine Dion, et al.), but they were less commonplace on the charts. In fact, if A1A were still around, they'd pretty much be Coast, anyway! (To get an idea what A1A was like, think Easy 93*, only lighter!)

(2) Do the younger folk even **listen** to radio now?? If not, why should it change for them, anyway?

[*And remember, Party is Easy's subchannel; not the other way around! :) ]

Wow man really? i'm 26 and i much prefer to listen to the radio. DJ's and sweepers make the music flow, MP3's are absolutely annoying! I will be flat honest...listening to Gnarly Charlie during the 80s weekends made my weekend fun. He's a hell of a talented person and that 80s weekend was the coolest thing! There are no stations doing something like that, let alone with a DJ who makes the music fun.

And as for MIA, I learned about 100 or more new songs i never heard before thanks to them. I never heard Company B, Madonna's first ever song Everybody or Yaz's Situation....but thanks to the station I did hear them and found out i liked them. Radio is an important factor to people, it's free....it's cool...it provides a ton of things that an iPod can only dream of providing. MIA was a "one of a kind" station in my opinion. I really enjoyed listening to it in it's heyday. I use to stream it, day and night. The mix of disco, 80s freestyle, 90s dance and modern dance was awesome. When it was "Move to the music" it was the best. Now? it's just another station playing the same 5 songs in a row....depressing

All of my friends around my age listen to the radio, but they have MP3's too. However, the radio always trumps the MP3s for us because we don't have to sit there and choose the variety or hit "next" over and over when we are bored with a song...in fact, we're stuck listening to what is playing....therefore allowing us to actually "listen" to the song and enjoy it, rather than skipping through.

So I don't agree. I have MP3's but I would much rather listen to the stations than hit play.

lol omg no wonder you are now just discovering the 80's your 26 ? i lived the 80's im 35. i thought you were much older really... in a few years your going to feel just like i do its yesterdays music.. i loved the 80's at one point but yep enough is enough the same take on me by aha, head over heals yep, you spin me round yep yep yep love them but their PLAYED OUT their magic has worn off, one 80's station is enough sorry but its true.

Well I just don't agree. One station can play 80s music, that doesn't mean one station can do it RIGHT. That's why the have more than 1, because 1 doesn't always cut the cake. When it came to 80s general...I loved the Coast, until they wrecked it

When it came to 80s freestyle...things I wasn't familiar with, MIA was the best.

And let's take it step further, When it came to 80s songs I've never heard before...what is known as SHE 103.5 would be the next in line, if they don't just stick with familiar hits only. I use to work at a station that was like She, we called it "Mike." They by far had the coolest playlist of songs I had never heard...I mean who plays Walk The Dinosaur, Big Time, Call me by Go West or Hourglass by Squeeze???? I never knew these songs until listening to that station....Really wish it was still around.

I wasn't in the era, I never heard it get played out...but I got to say, today's music is what gets played out. I'm sick of Adele and I'm sick of Call Me Maybe...every 5 darn mins...enough already! I'll take "aha" over these songs any day

In my opinion...MIA's switch was terrible...there's plenty of those stations around now, we didn't need another one. MIA had a cool format, they ruined it. You can say what you want about it being worn out, but to me...I wasn't worn out...I was just getting started.

**also let me add this, I'm an 80s guy. I love everything about the 80s...I wish i had lived then and would rather hear aha over and over and over than be forced to listen to this crap they call music for 1 min. I moved to Miami because I saw Miami as the "80s" place. Totally 80s weekends, 80s lunch, 80s parties, 80s on South Beach. I get here and WTH...it's all over? In 2 years it's just "over"? I don't understand...not sure if I ever will...but this place disappointed me

i agree with you in a way about todays pop music/ rap/ hip hop etc.. but i can tell your not at all from miami nobody local really listens to any of that when they party on south beach or the club at midnight, its all about EDM/ dance music- electronica ( thats the FUTURE ) & its TODAY-NOW- and its also what all the regular pop/ adult chr stations play when they wanna get "hip" for example y-100 after 10pm on friday and saturday and 93.9 MIA the same thing at rush hour they all play DANCE music.. BTW you surely werent here but also the older REAL miami freestlye that party 931 used to play from 01-05 before they switched to rock then easy listening i think you should get with the times before you get any older... i mean c'mon man your 26 your only gonna be young once !

Lol sorry man...I can't stand today's music, it's just not my thing.....As a DJ i wouldn't want to play it (and I usually don't) I'll just live in my 80s world that doesn't exist except in my own mind, it's better that I'm there than try to be something i'm not.

And on your comment about dance, MIA was the Dance station in my opinion. Nothing better to Dance to than 80s freestyle & disco! course...that is my opinion.

And as far as people listening to 80s here...There were a ton of people at the last 80s party the coast put on...there has to be lots of people who would dance to 80s hits, i can't believe it's all just new music...the 80s were the most fun decade that I see and I wish I could have lived it! anyway to each their own, i just don't like the new MIA and most likely won't be tuning in anymore
