mic for guest sharing?

Hi,

At our small community radio station, we're starting to do more pre-recorded interviews. We only have two mics, one for host and one for guest. But of course, sometimes we're having two guests who need to be interviewed together.

Is there any kind of mic we could purchase that allows two guests to sit at a smallish round table and share the same mic without "taking turns"? Something that would adequately pick up the voices of two people sitting next to each other?

I'm thinking an EV (Electro Voice) 635A if I were in a pinch. It's made for that kind of thing and has a wide pickup. My first choice would be an original EV635 (I have one, it's one of my favorites!), but they haven't made them in 50 years. :) If you ever find one, GRAB IT AND HANG ON TO IT! :)

Or buy another mic. Can buy an MXL for as little a s $60-70.
And, they are pretty good. I recently bought one of their ribbon mics on a lark. It was just so cheap, I couldn't resist. Call me a "mic Slut." I'm a pushover....

It turned out to be a really nice sounding mic. Since it is bi-directional, it works great for interviews if the two participants are sitting opposite each other. In fact, that is a very natural placement for a good conversation. Having eye contact changes the way you relate to the other person. Try it. You might like it.
