(Probably mispelled the name in Subject)....anyone know about this guy?? He and one Sylvestor (not sure of the last name) are supposed to be buying 1150 Port Neches for $50k.....(Its not worth it)....I have heard some rumors but thought I would ask here on the board and see what comments about these folks will be made (You can send private emails if you like.....I just want to confirm some things)...

CW,

I may be getting a couple of people mixed-up here, but...

I believe that Michael Augustus is the person that put the 92.5 on the air in Markham/Bay City. I also believe that Michael Augustus had brief ownership (then defaulted) in the 105.9 in Centerville. I also believe that Mr. Augustus may own a funeral home in League City or somewhere within the Houston-Galveston corridor.

The KBPO calls have a history in the Beaumont area (from the time of the Big Bopper, if I'm not mistaken). Is this station even on the air now? Given the significant work that must be done to make the station functional again, I'm not sure what kind of price would be appropriate. And even if you put it on the air, is sports the correct format for the triangle?

You are correct....he has a funeral home in Texas City...and yes he defaulted on 105.9 to (oh, what's his name) in Livingston who found a lot of equipment improperly removed from the Centerville station around the default. I understand some legal action took place and there was an arrest made or almost made.....Somehow I bet this deal will fall through....1150 needs a real radio person not a jokester...(like it has had in the past 20 years)

Cant say for that far back BUT the KBPO calls WERE on KLVI's FM (94.1) originally in the 60s....it "stood" for Keesler's Big Put On; Keesler being the Chief Egr of LVI at the time; or Keeps Barry Pissed Off....in regards to FCC Field Engineer Barry Nadler in Beaumont who HATED the Hicks family who owned KLVI and KBPO! The calls were on 94.1 until Airwaves out of Baton Rouge bought 94.1 from the Hicks and changed it to KQXY (the current call on 94.1) which matched their BTR station WQXY (both beautiful music: aka elevator music).......The station has not been on since Rita (unless you count transmitting into a wire antenna 6ft off the ground running horizontal as being on the air....could not hear them a couple of mile from the site and sure were NOT putting anything into the COL!).....yet they have lied to the commission on their renewal and since then (their EAS equipment had not worked in a while...I have an audio tape done on a day when the RMT was sent....1150 NEVER repeated it! and never sent a RWT that week as well).......$50K??? Nope...you would spend that much rebuilding it!! (The current owners were asking $75K for the 15 of the 20 acres the transmitter site is on....this was NOT including the 5 acres the building and tower took up....which were dividing the 15 acres!....$75k for 15 acres?? NO WAY in that part of Orange CO!)...I doubt FOX Sports will work (it hasnt in Dallas, Market 5 now on 1190...what makes anyone think it will in Market 134 on a 500watt daytime AM); definitely not in its current state or config anyway...
