Cumulus will pull the plug on it's syndicated Michael Baisden Show on March 29th. According to Baisden's Facebook page,the choice wasn't his and he'll return to the airwaves sooner than we think. I heard that Cumulus has locked all of the Baisden staff out of the studios, WOW! This isn't shocking as Cumulus has made it known they are focusing on Country and Rock format nowadays. Up until March 29th, all the shows will be previously taped shows. Baisden's show has been on air in ATL since 2005 on the former GROWN FOLKS 102.5 and MAJIC 107.5/97.5 3pm-7pm. I'd assume MAJIC will go local in the afternoon drive temporarily until Baisden finds a new syndicator, which would probaly be Syndication One.

The reason Cumulus locked him out is because he went public with the fact they couldn't agree on a new contract for Baisden before Cumulus could announce it.
Frank Ski is rumored to be speaking with Cumulus. Perhaps this will give Cumulus an incentive to get a deal with Ski done.

If Frank Ski does get a syndicated deal it would be interesting to see what markets would pick his show up. Radio One owns Syndicated One which syndicates Ricky Smiley,Russ Parr, and Yolanda Adams all on Radio One stations. Cumulus would have Ski`s show on Cumulus stations I would guess and Cumulus does not have the network of Urban stations that Radio One has this is an interesting story to keep an eye on.ShawtyBlack_ATL said:

Cumulus has said to be offereing a replacement for Michael Baisden, but if Syndication One scoops him up they might as well forget it. Citadel (now Cumulus) has tried Urban syndication with Big Boy and Doug & DeeDee and both failed.

However, I would think Baisden has a non-compete with Cumulus. Jerry Del Colliano says Baisden's non-compete is a full year. Jerry is sometimes wrong, but if he's right, that puts a big hole in a number of major stations in afternoon drive.
As far as Ski being in talks with Cumulus, I heard this last week from a very reliable source. But, it's still just a rumor.
I don't remember hearing about Doug Banks and DeeDee McGuire having a failed syndicated show. The first incarnation of Doug Banks Show from its ABC Radio division days lasted ten years until being replaced by Big Boy, Steve Harvey or Rickey Smiley depending on the station. But the second current incarnation meant for urban ac outlets doesn't have the momentum it once had; he mainly airs on mid-to-small markets the most, with Chicago and Charlotte being the only Top 25 affiliates.ShawtyBlack_ATL said:

In recent years Baisden was the only syndicated show worth my time but I do agree with you. It's about time that his soon-to-be former affiliates get their 20 hours a week of locality back. Detroit (WMXD), Philly, Dallas, LA (KDAY) and St. Louis dropped him before the end, so the rest should get a clue by now. Ironically, WXMG Columbus added him only TWO months ago :kilamanjero said:
