Michael Irvin Coming To WQAM

If you read the link to the Herald and read all of the comments, some of them are hilarious but it doesn't sound like his show is a big hit in Dallas. Although anything should be an improvement over Curtis alone. He was fine when he and Anita were together but solo he leaves a LOT to be desired. Tries too much to be a "wannabe".

So after Michael talks about "The U" and The Cowboys, what's left? Drugs?

I listened to Curtis's first day in his new time slot yesterday and it sounded like a lost fourth grader on the air. He had no callers and was talking about nothing with occasional interludes by Eisenberg. Not a show for a major market like Miami. BTW, what is to become of the now failed twice in the Miami market Anita Marks?

I'm sure he is a "nice" guy and all but probably just good as a fill-in or with a "seasoned" vet. Last week when he was going solo, he seemed lost and I guess he thought he was cool and started using a "gravelly voice" which is hard to describe. Regardless, he was a lost soul.

I didn't know Anita "failed" and was surprised she hasn't found a permanent gig. She is at least better than Curtis, IMO anyway. I guess I grew up with QAM so I feel some loyalty but guess I am a minority in that respect.

Curtis just sounds amatuer on the radio and is not a major market talent. Having said that, QAM management moving a 1.2 rating to compete during afternoon drive and plugging the Big O and Michael Irvin in middays is doomed for failure. This is really a shame for a station that had Hank, and Neil and good talent for a long time. This is the best they could do? Playing armchair PD, you have Joe Rose, Sid, Hank and beg Jorge or Neil to come back. Just a thought.

And don't forget, they even had Howard Stern for awhile, not too long ago...

Meanwhile, regarding the aforementioned Anita Marks: DCRTV.com reports that she is weighing offers from various stations, none of which were specifically mentioned, and among markets interested in Marks, only New York was mentioned in the blurb.

Ah.....it was time for Neil to retire and good riddance to Jorge. Let him stay on the Internet Radio. Hank though still has a few years left in him. Just don't think Michael Irvin would last. Too many skeletoins to be brought up.

Hank used to fall asleep during breaks in his show. He was old, sickly, cranky and extremely rude to the people at the radio staton. People, move on. Hank/Neil...they had their time, it's done.

At least Hank and Neil could put on an entertaining show. The best that Miami can offer in a non-syndicated show is the Sports Brothers and Curtis during mid days. This is a major market.

Here's a news flash...radio is a business...not justifying it, just telling it like it is. The reason Sports Brothers adn Curtis are on the air is that they work cheap. As for Hank/Neil being entertaining, they certainly were in their time, but not in the last years of their radio careers. Why can't anyone retire gracefully and leave the business without the bitterness and anger? Both of these guys were in their late 60s at the time and according to Arbitron, not connecting with many people under the age of 35.

Remember too that Neil Rogers did his general talk show on an all sports station. If he were doing his show on WIOD, he most certainly would be trouncing any sports
talk show local or syndicated. Clear Channel, for all their faults, is still not as restrictive as Beasley. Listening to Bob and Tom for years, they are given much more
latitude in their comedy than Joyce Fitch and her word-police gave Neil.

And keep in mind, if Michael Irvin's new "local" show on Miami radio (which he will be doing via ISDN from Dallas) is successful, it, too, will be syndicated.

According to Joe Bell, the Irvin show would fill the void for a local talker focused on carjacking, drive-by shootings, and Hurricane football.

Any update on this? Is Irvin coming to town or not?

Just heard a promo on WQAM....I guess they finally got the deal done. Michael Irvin starts July 26th. I'm looking forward to hearing it!

They now have great NFC East coverage - Irvin's Cowboys syndicated live from Dallas and Rosenberg's Giants live from NY err..Miami (for now)

Wonder what's going to happen to Curtis. Maybe his "Daddy" Jim Mandich can get him a gig on the Dolphins broadcasts fetching snacks and beverages.

Why doesn't Curtis get his own show in a smaller Florida Beasley Market. Where is the hunger to have his own show. The Miami young talent seems afraid to leave 'their parent home...'
