Michael Jackson Dies

A few tracks are starting to surface into the top 20 on Itunes.
I'm curious with the HUGE hype & requests & stations blowing dust off MJ tunes they don't usually play...would one of his older tunes re-chart on Billboard after his death & start getting airplay on CHR stations again? It sure would be interesting to hear a radio edit version of Thriller(which is currently at #11 on Itunes), getting mixed right in with everything else in the Top 10.
On Itunes now, Man In The Mirror #12, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough #14, The Way You Make Me Feel #16, Smooth Criminal #19 & Billy Jean #20. Others by him are further down.
Come to think of it MJ has already probably broken another couple records even after his death-
-most songs on the the Itunes Chart by one artist all at once,
AND most songs on Itunes by the same artist all at once, by an artist who is already passed away. :(

Coming soon to your town: MJ's Coat . . .

I don't know what's crazier: That MTV is actually playing music videos, or that Kurt Loder is still doing MTV News.

I'm half-expecting to see Tabitha Soren come out of the woodwork to get a comment from former President Clinton...

I'd sure love to see Martha Quinn pop out of the woodwork(pant pant)! Maybe they'll dig up Emanuel Lewis & get some sound from him too.

This is crazy... "Man In The Mirror" bumped out the Black Eyed Peas "I've Got a Feeling" and is #1 on Itunes...making 7 of the top 10 songs by Michael. Too bad only in death does he get a huge comeback like this. Not only does it bring a strange nostalgic feeling hearing it all again on CHR stations, but knowing that(some of) these stations are actually putting effort into doing live coverage & not just generic old voice tracking. Nice to see a break in regular programming, but the circumstances could be better.
....I just checked & exactly HALF of Itunes top 100 are either his solo or with the Jackson 5 (except "We Are The World") with USA for Africa at #41 getting unearthed for the 1st time in, what, 24 years?
I wouldn't be surprised if Kennedy Gordy(Rockwell) resurfaces with "Somebody's Watching Me"-not the hokey Geico commercial remake, but the original w/ Michael on backup.
Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger,Siedah Garrett, even Princess Stephanie of Monaco(Keep It In The Closet) may be getting unexpected attention these days.

I knew there had to be somebody else who remembers his duet with Jagger ("State of Shock")!

that almost became a duet with the late Freddie Mercury also

With all the news coming out about what killed him shouldn't the title of this thread be changed to MICHAEL JACKSON MURDERED?

Or considering it was his choice to do the drugs, Michael Jackson commits suicide?

I'm of the generation who grew up with his music, starting with "ABC" when I was a little kid, through the incredible "Off The Wall" LP in HS to the "Thriller" album when I was in college and beyond. When I was in school, he was such a cultural icon that when his cousin Rockwell came out with "Somebody's Watching Me" and when it was learned that Michael could be heard doing background vocals, the thing vaulted to #1. Anything that Michael touched during the 80's was a phenomenal success. He had an incredible musical career.
Actually, Michael had lead vocals on "Somebody's Watching Me," at least on the chorus and title lyrics. I don't think Rockwell ever uttered the words "somebody's watching me" anywhere on that record. And it actually reached "only" #2 on Billboard, although it may have been #1 on Radio & Records. Interesting to note that when Rockwell attempted a followup without Michael Jackson's help ("Obscene Phone Caller"), it only got to #36.

It reached #1 on the R&B chart- and I believe it's an old urban legend that Kennedy is Michael's cousin- the only way they are related is by marriage. Rockwell's sister(Hazel Gordy) was married to Jermaine. That may be Rockwell in the parts of the song that sounds voxed, like ast the beginning where it goes..."tell me who's watching...tell me who is watching...who's watching me..."

That's my feeling too.

"The Girl Is Mine" was the last Michael Jackson song I considered worth listening to.

As for Jagger, I liked that show where they tried to rob him. I didn't even really like HIM on that. That was a really good show.

Rockwell was Michael's (then) sister-in-law's brother. I don't think that is considered "related," even by marriage, in anyone's book.
The only reason I mentioned it is because someone above said Gordy & Jackson were cousins. Incorrect...they were childhood friends though before Jermaine hooked up with his sister.

"BRNout" referred to MJ and Rockwell as "cousins." I just considered that a situation much like what we had when I was in school, when we referred to our friends and classmates as "cuz," even though they weren't our cousins! ;D
