MICHAEL JACKSON GETS UNIVERSAL AIRPLAY

Michael Jackson has gotton airplay on just about every popular radio format in the New York area.

By sure he got airplay on WBLS 107.5 FM and WRKS (98.7 Kiss-FM). WCBS-FM also paid tribute to the man we know as the "King of Pop". WPLJ yesterday evening saluted Jackson from 7-Midnight with every three or four songs. WAXQ-104.3 played a song by Jackson this morning on the Jim Kerr show. And even Long Island's Pop Standards 1100 AM WHLI's Paul Richards played, "I'll Be There" after the 7 o'clock news this morning.

This proves that Jackson's music had mass appeal and cut across multiple music genres.

Jackson will be missed, and his music lingers on.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

For the record, WCBS-FM did EXTENSIVE tributes to Michael with ALL its air personalities - with two getting particular mention, for obvious reasons:

1) Last night between 7 and midnight, Ron Parker was playing ALL Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 stuff (he even played "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell) and was taking phone calls from listeners about their favorite MJ songs, memories, etc.

2) This afternoon, during the 12 noon lunch hour, Bob Shannon was playing ALL Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 songs as well...

It looks like KTU will be all-MJ through the weekend.

Conversely, Z100 doesn't seem to have done much...apparently they played a few MJ songs today, but nothing yesterday evening when the news broke. 92.3 NOW, on the other hand, went all-MJ for about an hour once the news broke.

I gave credit to 'KTU on the other board for continually staying on with the Michael Jackson tribute. I'm doing so here as well.

Michael Jackson has made a HUGE mark for dance music, especially at the time where disco "died" and the record industry was in a downfall. "Thriller" not only picked up the industry, but Michael also helped put MTV, which was still at its infancy, on the map. For New York, many radio stations have changed formats to pop (Z-100 and 'PLJ, 1983) or Top 40/Urban (Hot 103, 1986) mainly because of the huge impact rhythmic pop had at the time. A lot of radio stations outside of NYC have changed formats to pop because of MJ's influence.

Thank you!

I can't believe what I just read. Tony Santiago is enjoying another radio station besides "Pulse". Typical NYC radio listener...... Another one of radio's fair weathered friends.

Hi Five to the Dance Coalition-

Uhhh.....HUH?? ;D

Hey, I call it as I hear it. :) No disrespect to Pulse, they're working on a Michael Jackson mix on one of the DJ mixshows, but being a current leaning station I could see why the station wouldn't devote a huge block of time to MJ. Likewise, I'm not a 'KTU listener but what they are doing with the weekend of MJ is good. Michael left a HUGE legacy and was largely responsible for the dance music growth of the 80's.

I heard a Michael Jackson song on Pulse today.
There was a strong e-skip opening today, and I heard Michael Jackson songs played on a lot of the stations that bounced in on e-skip.

Wonder if Z-100 will use this for ammo?

"On June 26th, NOW played..."

;D

I wonder how country & alternative formats are doing it.
Maybe playing the cuts Cheryl Crow sang backup on? Alien Ant Farm?

party 105.3 has been playing Jacksons songs in practically all of their mixshows, since thursday; and in regular rotation.
wbzo, an oldies station is playing jacksons songs, and i heard a few on 106.1 bli.
