Michael Jackson Tribute

Random thoughts: So which song from the tribute will be most played on radio? Wasn't it great to see "Oldies But Goodies" like Lionel, Stevie and Jermaine still in such fine voice? A magnificent memorial, only downer was Sheila Jackson Lee. Having someone from the current Congress, the biggest bunch of thieves, liars and "me-first" idiots in our country's history, truly tarnished the tribute to "The Best Entertainer In History" and a man who gave so much to others. A necessary evil I guess. I played Michael's music on radio across A/C, Top 40 and Urban formats, in clubs and parties, in my car, just everywhere. He was simply the best ever at what he did. R.I.P. Michael.

I was questioning all the the hooplah over the memorial service, but then I saw Mariah Carey sing one of Jackson's very early ballads and for me it was all put into proper perspective.

There are a multitude of things you can point out about the memorial services and their ongoing status, but it serves no purpose to discuss them derisively.

For the next few days, its a persons death and burial and it should be respected as you would wish your own or a loved one.

Let's bury this weirdo and get back to some real news. With all this media, you'd think he cured cancer or had done something really important.

I've heard this complaint a lot lately.

But....what real news haven't you been getting enough of?

Michael Jackson is arguably one of the most famous people in the world. Everyone knew him no matter what country. And on top of that, he had 7 TOP TEN HITS off of one album. It's more of a shocker to everyone. The King of Pop Music is gone at 50? This is unexpected! I say don't proclaim him a weirdo. Give the man his credit and I say keep tributing him and keep remembering him. He really is a loss to the industry.

R.I.P.

With all due respect, the memory of Michael Jackson, and the future of Michael Jackson's "kids" may become nothing but a "meal ticket" for the likes of daddy Joe Jackson, or people of his ilk. I would not be surprised if Joe would recreate the "Jackson 3" with the kids if he can get away with it. I haven't seen the clip, but apparently Paris has stage presence. Dear sweet Joe has done it once and will do it again.

Lets get real. He named himself that King of Pop. Quincy Jones produced most of Jackson's work, so let's give Jones the credit. He can't be described as normal when he would spend 5 days at a time in his bedroom with little boys. He hadn't had a hit song in years. I could go on forever. I'm just amazed that anyone still holds Wacko Jacko in any esteem at all.. Sad, really sad. Oh, he was a good dancer. End of story.

I personally thought the "Tribute" was deserved, if that is what his family wanted. He died unexpectedly. If he had cancer and lingered for months or years, it wouldn't have been that way (Farrah)! What bothers me was having that poor 11 year old daughter on stage to speak. EXPLOITIVE! That was the first time 98% of the world even saw her face! Michael hid their faces behind masks their whole life and now we are going to let that occur? That was done for THE $$$$$$$! If she felt she needed to discuss her loss with someone, it should have been with a counselor or family member, not 1 billion viewers! Otherwise, if it was her request, (which I doubt), she should have been told it wasn't appropriate!

Michael Jackson had not been relevant to the music industry for almost 25 years. To call him the King of Pop at this point is just fantastical.

A good singer and dancer died unexpectedly. A sick and disturbed pedofile was finally granted some justice belatedly.

Pick whichever sentence you feel best describes his death. Both seem to me to be pretty accurate.

Either way...movin on....who's next in the dead pool?

Wow- judgmental much, FFR, Tank and Jack? Why so much hate? It is fine to weigh the pros and cons of any career worth examining, but name calling and claims of unsubstantiated wrongdoing sounds like someone has personal issues. I have no problem believing that the children left in his care were exposed to some less than savory stuff, whether it involved sexual contact or not. Frankly I'm more inclined to point to bad parenting. Who lets their kids hang alone and unsupervised with oddball adults, accused or otherwise?

Nobody seemed outraged that Farrah's last months were exploited by family, friends and media, much to the morbid delight of the public.

As far as the moniker "King of Pop", Milton Berle has been dead for some 15 years, but "Mr. Television" is still used to describe what he contributed. Does it matter who coined the phrase? The tribute was appropriate, the coverage was overblown but expected for anyone with global notoriety. I don't think there's much debate to be had with regard to his contribution to pop music and modern pop culture.

I do agree we can move on now.

Bob, I never hated Jackson. I'm just amazed how anyone could respect the guy. The media is still reporting comments by his crazy family even today. And besides, there is no comparison with the degree of coverage between Jackson and Farah. She hardly got a footnote compared to the wall to wall with Jackson. And there is still much debate as to his "contribution to pop music and culture". My only point is, let's bury this guy, now that someone has found his body, and forget it. ....(Besides, calling himself the King of Pop........ whatever that meant, was beyond ego at best)....... Hey, you still want to borrow my WUBE tapes?
