Michael Phelps and KTVK

Was reading Yahoo News this afternoon and an article appeared on Phelps' return to the States. There's a YouTube video embedded in the story that shows the awkward moment Javier Soto (correct me if I'v misidentified the reporter) basically waiting at Sky Harbor for Phelps and his fiancee along with their son to arrive home. You can't help but cringe during the brief interview, haha. Oh the joys of being famous and being a reporter...

Actually, the reporter was Marc Liverman. It's too bad because Marc Liverman comes across as a nice guy and was just trying to do his job. I totally understand that Phelps was coming off a long flight, but for better or worse he is a public figure who represented the country at the Olympics. Phelps should have given a brief (30 second) statement and that's it.

Channel 12 didn't send a reporter? I would think that the station that airs the Olympics would have someone there when our country's #1 athlete comes home. And I'd also think that Phelps would be contractually obligated to give at least a brief statement to his local NBC affiliate.

It happens to the best of them. This morning a local reporter tried a surprise interview with her ASU Freshman sister who begins classes today. It didn't go well at all and the sister almost became hostile. The reporter had to plead with the sister not to embarrass the family (too late it appeared).

I hope the sister isn't majoring in electronic journalism because she just blew that career path.

Sounds like deja vu Gil Tyree/Randy Johnson all over again. :D

Didn't like it. Phelps should've just said: "thanks, glad to be back in the U.S., looking forward to spending time with my family. Thanks for coming by."
