Michael Smerconish says bye-bye to terrestrial radio.

I can't say I blame him for going to satellite radio as nationally syndicated talk radio is nothing more a toilet full of angry old white men complaining about the same old things everyday. It has become a complete wasteland and Smerconish is tired of it.

In a recent interview Smerconish says, Those fellows, are “amazing entertainers,” masters of the radio medium — not to mention dividers of the United States of America. “The problem for the country, I think, is that too many [people] cannot differentiate between entertainment and substance. The country is paying a price for this brand of polarized media. … Too many politicians are taking their cues from people with microphones,” he says.

The medium, he says, has become “too old, too white, too male and too angry, just like the Republican Party. Why should I continue to sell vegan burgers at McDonald’s?”

I personally hope America will wake up and shut down the Clear Channel (they own Premier Radio Networks) talkers that are so much responsible for the divisiveness seen in this country. Their nonsense talk has caused brother to go against brother and it's just plain awful. The listeners to Limbaugh and Hannity accept their nonsense as fact as though they are hearing a newscast. Limbaugh and company's goal is to graduate listeners into an unhealthy mindset like Hitler did with his people.

I congratulate Smerconish in his move though would like to see more people like him on terrestrial radio. NJ 101.5 has it right and so did the old WWDB-FM.

Of course I don't see Smerconish quitting his guest shots on MSNBC where the hosts NEVER spile hateful, vile left-wing rhetoric. Rachel, Chris, Ed et al are all such level-headed perfect human beings!!!

If I remember correctly, wasnt smerconish one of those angry white men, until he fell in love with obama and changed his political views. He also has a man crush on mathews who is angrier than any other host on tv or radio. I stopped listening to smerconish when he sounded as ridiculous as the president.

Actually I'd argue Rachel doesn't spew hatred... She often seems to be the only one on either side who bothers backing up what she says with any research.

Same old crap...the left accuses the right and the right accuses the left of what? RHETORIC!!! But BOTH parties remind me of Pavlovs dog, they each take their cue from the talking heads of the various talk shows who represent their respective party. So please folks of each party, stop trying to pass yourselves off as some unbiased contructive thinkers, because when it comes to politics in the U.S...there's no such animal.

I'm unclear whether you are talking about the general population, those who are professional politicians, or just the people who post here.

There are people who make RATIONAL explanations of things on the Right, and there are people who are just bone-headed wackadoodle Crazy Right.

There are people who make RATIONAL explanations of things on the Left, and there are people who are jut bone-headed wackadoodle Crazy Left.

Those who insist on camping out over at the edges of those groups... the "way out there" folks can be a bit unpleasant, a bit useless when we try to have conversation.

But there are people who have political understanding and people who have political opinions that are sane, that are rational, that are helpful to the process of trying to be a people.

People who wander through our conversation yelling "A pox on both your houses" don't help in the effort that some of us have to bring about some sanity. I would argue with you that it is impossible to be a truly "unbiased constructive thinker". A truly critical thinker has to realize that a vanilla, we-don't-have-opinions society would simply die of dry rot.

Is it some kind of 'mortal sin' to live in one decade and feel that the people over on one side of center have a valid approach to improving the body-politic and then a decade later feel that the people over on the other side of cent have a better approach for this particular decade?

Ed Schultz has done that. You folks are telling me that Smerconish has done that. Some guy named Reagan did that a number of years ago. I may get put out with people who have political views I disagree with (today), but I really have no use for people who automatically say: "If you claim you have moved from one side to the other, then you are invalid."
