Michael Tearson

I saw news yesterday on another board that WMGK has cancelled his show. Michael announced it on his Facebook page.

He is on Sirius still. The old legends are slowly going away. Life moves on but it is hard to see someone as good as Tearson go.

I hear him and Earle Bailey on Sirius, I think on Deep Tracks. I think that was the only XM rock station that Sirius kept.

I could see him go down the podcast route if he really wanted for "Saturday Morning 60s". It'd be a bit of trouble to get ASCAP/BMI licensing, but there is some precedent for these sort of specialty/niche music format shows. And it's not like he'd be doing anything totally different considering the show was pre-recorded from his home in south Jersey. Granted, I don't know what WMGK really is trying to gain by clearing out a 2-hour block of time on early Saturday morning, but I sorta blame the corporate suits over at Greater Media HQ... :-/

confirming i am gone from WMGK. was told Tuesday that last Saturday was the last Saturday. yes, i continue with Sirius/XM primarily on Deep Tracks with fellow WMMR alum Earle Bailey among others. and i also have been posting the most adventurous work i have done in decades for on demand free listening at www.radiothadoesntsuck.com. over 100 shows there and a wildly diverse batch they are. one new one per week. i do expect to relaunch a psych show very soon. two possible landing sites in discussion and a third others have spoken about. much to my own surprise i feel oddly relieved by the firing. told it isn't they are firing me, just cancelling the show. from where i sit no diff, is there? feelin' good. blog by Inquirer's Kevin Riordan up today at www.philly.com: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inq-blinq/Tearson-Alive-and-swell-.html

answering the question about any involvement with WMGK's so-called Deep Tracks HD channel (clear trademark infringement), no. i was asked one time if i'd be interested in doing some of the programming, said possibly and never heard another word. one reason HD has not done well is stations are not willing to invest a penny in the programming since they cannot properly monetize it. but that is another discussion for another thread.

No respect for the legends of radio, no respect for legendary music, just respect for this $$$$$$$ which is why listenership is down. That's alright, more people are turning to the net.Yeah, I know it's a business, but when it's all this $$$$$$$$ and no quality, it's also called BAD BUSINESS.

Michael, you are a true Philadelphia and radio legend!! Continue best wishes and success on the airwaves whereever that may be!!!

Michael,
I enjoy hearing you on Deep Tracks. You have a unique voice that brings be back to my college days listening to you every night on WMMR while I was doing homework. I enjoy hearing Earle on there too.
