Hearing reports out of Missouri and New Mexico that Michelle Matthews (also known as Michelle Weber and Michelle Rigden) died this morning following a brief illness. She was recently appointed PD of KKRG in Albuquerque after several years in Detroit and Columbus. Early in her career she worked in St. Louis, Columbia, and Springfield, Missouri and had stops in Denver, Omaha, and Springfield, IL.
 
She started at KYMC in high school. Seems like she was either Class of '89 or '90, possibly at Lafayette. She worked at KPNT when it was new, seems like part time at first. I want to say she worked at KFMZ 98.3 full-time while working at KPNT part-time early in her career.

She and I had a brief conversation when she went to KTOZ 95.5 in Springfield. She wanted to get into management and concluded she would have to go somewhere else before getting that opportunity in St. Louis. I gave her tips on what to do and where to go in Springfield, and she offered me the same about Columbia. That was the only time I ever really talked to her.

I worked with some of her former KFMZ co-workers at Premier and Zimmer, and all of them told me she was well-liked. She always had a reputation for being a good manager and a good person to work for.
