Mick was 58 years old. He was my PD very briefly in 1993-94 at WMGH. At that point in his career he was having his second battle with alcohol, and he was pretty tough to work for. It was difficult to know when he truly meant some of the things he would say. He was a very strict PD, who carried the programming philosophies of his Drake-Chenault days at WLEV with him to WMGH. All that said, one thing you can't take away from Mick was his dedication to his craft. He ate, drank, and slept radio. During football season, it was not uncommon for him to arrive at the station at 4:30 am for his 5:30 shift, manage the automation until 2pm when I came on board, stay to do production during my shift, relieve me at 6pm to run the automation for an hour, and then handle the board for the high school football game. We're talking an 18 hour day without leaving the building. He did it for bottom line reasons, but he also did it because he loved to. Great delivery, good set of pipes, and a workaholic besides. Hard to find many like him today. Rest in piece Mick.
