Radio Disney stations aren't for sale in the big package.

Too bad. Radio Disney has some of the best A.M. facilities in the nation, and there's not much evidence that any significant number of people listen to such programming. That spectrum could be put to better use without half trying.

Radio Disney has, actually, some pretty awful AM facilities. They are well utilized in providing a service to the pre-teen demos.

Since Arbitron does not measure those below age 12, there is no pubic data on usage. And Disney Rntertainment uses the net to brand the mark, and it is a brand extension to them, not a radio station.

Given the demo, it is probably pre-pubic data.

One of my broadcasting professors at ASU once mistakenly said "serving the pubic interest" instead of "serving the public interest". I think it took us a good 5 minutes to stop laughing.

Having announced the "erection results" on a station in Cleveland, I empathize.

As long as the results were sponsored by Pfizer ;0

That was way before Viagra. I also once IDed the 92.3 station as "ninty poo point pee" and, like all bloopers, the manager was listening.

Why is it that management never hears anything good? It's like glitch radar or something. Two weeks of solid good sound...nothing. 2.04 seconds of dead air...RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!

Since you mention Cleveland, David, the RD Cleveland station, WMIK formerly WIXY 1260, would have been a perfect home for the new Radio One urban talk format, considering that their pattern, like many of the RD station you mention, covers the city itself, and little of surrounding suburbs where... actual families of means live. Of course, would this have been done, WERE could have remain brokered.

Which brings me to the original poster; there are plenty of big sticks wasted and the licensees don't care. Like the two other 50kWs in Phoenix; well, useless except to the owners making major coin.

1260 has a much better coverage of the suburbs than 1300 has. When it was WIXY, it did very well to the east as far as Lyndhurst, and quite nicely to the West, too. It was not perfect at night, but daytime does cover the market.

50 kw alone makes no difference. 1580 is an inferior facility, as is 1100... both far less coverage than 550 and 620.

Agreed. 1580 is probably better than 1100. 1100 is worthless in the east valley at night. (Maybe 1580 stinks in certain areas too, I'm not sure.) 1360 is also licensed for 50K, but powers down and runs directional at night. I doubt they power up to 50K during the daytime anyway.

550 and 620 are the only metro-quality AM signals in the market.

Unlike Radio Aahs that was on KIDR 740, KMIK can be heard at night.

Radio Aahs (before it became "Aahs World Radio") was MUCH BETTER than Radio Disney.
