I've been enjoying the conversation about AM Top 40 radio in Detroit on the CKLW thread.

Which reminds me, does anybody know of any Mickey Schorr air checks (either WXYZ or WJBK) posted online?

Both CK and Keener have tribute sites and airchecks seem to be available. It's curious to find so little online about WXYZ or WJBK as Top 40 stations.
 
Thanks. I looked there first. And several other of the more popular aircheck sites. And did a Google search.

WXYZ is strikingly under-represented, especially WXYZ 1.0 (Paul Winter, Ed McKenzie, Jack Surrell and - most notably - the legendary Mickey Schoor). His career was cut short and ABC treated him badly but he was the more unique and memorable Top 40 personality ever to work in Detroit (including Joey Reynolds).

It's a shame if none of his work has been preserved.
 
There are a few hours of him that I know of....on the December 31st 1973 logger from the Big 8. I think he covers three hours on it, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

He sounds of of place though, he just sort of rambles, maybe he was having an off day, I dunno. I'm surprised that he was allowed to (seemed like he did) break format like that, maybe all the management were off for the holidays.
 
I happen to have the Mickey Shorr aircheck from his 3 hour air shift on The Big 8 CKLW Radio, on Monday, December 31, 1973. As stated previously, his shift ran from 6am - 9am.
I have the entire 3 hour show, complete with music and commercials. I have also seen it on-line on some file sharring sites. I have to agree, he seemed to be holding back and not giving it his best effort. I have seen others do the same thing. I'm guessing that he didn't want to grandstand.
