Micki Gamez out at 92.3 Now

The whole station should go. NYC does not need three stations playing the same music on the FM dial. Go figure the boneheads at CBS try to run a station based on data "research" instead of common sense. If a format already exists in a market, it's going to be hard to gain listeners away from the big Z.

New York doesn't have 3 stations playing the same music. If you're referring to WKTU as the 3rd, they are not CHR.
If you say the whole station should go based on your personal opinion over actual facts it makes sense otherwise not so much.

While WHTZ clearly beats WNOW they do take market share from them and are no train wreck. They cume quite well. I can't speak for billing but I suspect it's adequate and not worth the potential economical loss a format change would entail.

Lot's of markets have 2 stations with the same format. It's not unusual.

I had my opinion on what needed to be done.

But for what radio is, the younger crowd is abandoning it more and more in favor of the digital media players, social media, streams and services like Pandora and Spotify. Doesn't make sense for 92.3 Now or ANY station to do dance/EDM anymore based on that.

... streams and services like Pandora and Spotify.

... and soon YouTube.

"The company's free online video site already is the most popular on-demand music service in the world and has surpassed radio as the leading way teens and young adults listen to songs."

Wow, that's a shocker, especially coming from you.

They should flip this station to 1010 WINS or to an Old School Hip-Hop station or a station like Hot 96.9 in Boston. But an all EDM station is not going to work. EDM is meant for Top-40 stations.

I'm being realistic about this and see the writing on the wall.

Terrestrial radio did matter for us, even as recent as the Pulse 87 days. But look at it this way, if EDM is this BIG DEAL to the youth of America then why aren't more radio stations on top of it, especially in terms of giving it a standalone format. Don't get me wrong, for it to mainstream with CHR speaks volumes and you would think just on that basis alone, you would have dance/EDM stations popping up all over on the FM dial. But sadly enough no.

The execs know (though they'll never admit it) that those under 30 have gone on to streams, social media, etc. for their musical preferences. And it's because of those factors...add to the fact that on the radio side, AM stations are being simulcasted over to the FM side (WEPN-FM, WFAN-FM and it would not surprise me the least when (not if) WABC goes on the FM side too) that dance/EDM no longer makes sense to pursue. It just doesn't.

Enjoy those streams! They matter :).
