Micky Dolenz Out At 101.1; PD Logan Exits Also

Looks like Micky Dolenz won't be making it to show number 101 after all... According to Radio and Records (source):

"Infinity Flips A Pair Of 'Jacks'... The company abandoned Oldies at legendary WCBS-FM/New York and WJMK/Chicago at 5pm ET today in favor of the radio industry's hot new format. WCBS PD Dave Logan and morning host Micky Dolenz both exited in the flip. New York listeners were delivered a jolt when the station introduced the format with Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right." However, WCBS' Oldies format will live on in cyberspace, as the website www.wcbsfm.com will carry the torch for the station's old programming. WCBS VP/GM Chad Brown said, "New York deserves a radio station that is equally as eclectic as its listeners' personalities and attitudes. We look forward to changing the landscape of the New York radio market."

Who knew that the big anniversary bash at B.B. King's just this morning, was nothing more than a "bon voyage" party in disguise? Anyway, best of luck to Micky and Dave in their future endeavors.

You have to wonder who will join Chad Brown at the controls of Jack. Do you think Smokey Rivers will come back to the Big Apple?

Unless some of the former WCBS-101.1 personalities continue to work for the online version of the oldies format, they're also out.

"Jack"-type stations in the United States, with a couple of exceptions, run without live announcers.

If the new "Jack" format of 101.1 (and look for new call letters as well) is a success, Infinity could make much more money that they ever could with WCBS-FM's previous oldies format for one major reason: The expenses of an airstaff (which are huge for a market like New York) are eliminated.

Back over at the Oldies messageboard at the time WQSR/Baltimore went "JACK" there was a lot positives about parent company Infinity being supportive with Oldies. But it looks like we didn't see this double whammy coming in NYC and Chicago.

So much for Infinity being a supporter of Oldies formats.
