Micro Power FM Transmitter Range?

I have to deal with a channel 6 on 87.7 (WPVI-DT). If you guys use radio-locator for an open frequency it doesn't work all that well, they don't even have channel 6 audio signals. It is best to get the most sensitive and selective radio to test the actual clearness of that frequency. A car radio would work or a super sensitive shortwave would be more than adequate.

I will stick with a modded ccrane since I don't have much money. I was thinking of alligator clipping extra wire to the telescopic antenna too so I can further extend the range.

You can also try using a 20-foot (or longer) cord to connect the audio source to the transmitter. Acts pretty much like an antenna, and works pretty well IME. And Mario, the Whole House unit will blow out most local signals unless you're really close to the tower. Try to find a spot between two locals....even if there's still lots of noise and even if you wind up with a first adjacent on each end. You should still be OK.

I got the frequency all good. I like the idea of a longer cord for better reception.

be sure to make it the correct length for your frequency or you may actually reduce range and harm your transmitter.
Here's a website that will give you the length you need

http://www.csgnetwork.com/freqwavelengthcalc.html

To be clear, I'm talking about an audio cord....i.e. a "headphone jack extension cord", not a power cord. Connects the audio source to the audio input of the xmtr. I've been using these for 5-10 years and have yet to encounter damage of any sort one of these little fm modulator type transmitters. But if I ever did, I wouldn't sweat being out five or ten bucks. (No need to use them with the whole house units).

I knew what you meant by extending the cord. And the antenna legnth is a good piece of info

Absolutely agree about the antenna length. Apologies if I misunderstood what you were saying.
