Mic's for AM studio

What are some good Mic's to use for an AM radio studio.

Nothing more expensive then $300. I was looking at the SHURE SM7B, and of course in our current sutdio we are using the RE20. Any suggestions?

Heil. Their PR-40 dynamic is very smooth sounding and reminicent of the RE20, at about $130 less. The Heil PR-20 is great for guest positions, warm sounding, cheap ($125 street), compact and easy to use with their SM-1 shock mount and SB-2 short boom. Did I say I like these mics?

GREAT A.M MIC the famous Sennheiser 421...tuff to beat.the Shure SM7 is very good ,too.either one will work fine..

I like the Senheiser MD421U.. could probably find a used one in your price range.

I had one that came from WCVG 1320.. and boy oh boy, was it deep and rich sounding..

Is it OK to solicit eqpt. sales here? I've got a Sennheiser 421-U that I'll sell for $220 including shipping to the lower 48. It was a spare at my (now sold) station and was virtually unused. We could even arrange for payment through Paypal.

Shoot, thats a good deal.. wish I had that much free cash on hand.. I could use a decent Production Mic. and Id buy an MD421U any day of the week

Do you think i'm going to have to buy a preamp for each mic? (I am getting 4) I am making a small studio that is going to broadcast through ISDN to a local am station. I purchased the Soundcraf RM100. I was hoping I could just plug the mic's into the board, and be done with it. What do ya'll think?

And if I do need to buy something extra for my mic's, is there a way to plug them all into 1?

Damn, my bosses are cheap.

We use the Sennheiser 421, and in my experience, it depends on the board. We had a Yamaha model and the gain wasn't all the way up, and I didn't turn the mic all the way up when I was on-air. The new board (I don't remember the brand) is making us think about buying pre-amps because we've gotten quieter with everything maxed out.
