I always try to ensure that the opinions I express around here are informed ones (unless noted). In keeping with that, I just finished giving thirty minutes of my life to the Barsky/Douglas Yuk-fest on Free FM. I wanted it to be better. I wanted to see what the Barsky-lovers see in him. Instead, the experience made me miss Barsky's old morning shows.

It was worse than anything I'd ever heard on any of his previous shows. I mean, it was painful. They had one of those guys on who allegedly speaks with dead people. They were taking calls and playing stupid, "creepy" Halloween efx as a bed. It really wasn't good.

Lots of dead air... Lots of Barsky making jokes that only he (& Kim) seemed to find funny... Lots of Kim earning a full-time salary for throwing in the occasional "Huh!" or "OK!" and laughing for no reason. In other words, lots of the same. It certainly didn't seem like anything that would hold the attention of Stern's audience or that of Kidd Chris.

Did anyone else hear it? Can anyone actually tell me they thought it was good radio? (I'm not talking about the Barsky-lovers; We know how you feel about him. I'm talking about people who actually heard the broadcast to which I just subjected myself.)

I heard the show too. I heard it from the beginning right up until the kid was talking to Barskys medium about how his brother died. I heard the guy in the studio debunk some chick on Montel's show, and then he turned around and have the "thumbs up" to James Von Praah. As for the dead-air, Barsky claimed that the pauses were because his buddy was seeing the ghosts or however he described the process his buddy was usingto respond to the requests of his caller. I generally thought it was strange. The medium told the kid on the phone that his brother died of a silent death. He asked teh caller if he was smoking pot or smoking "wet" ( smoking dust )and that the kid now had an opportunity to teach others how to do right. Kim douglas is a wasted personality, and once again she herself re-affirms that Kim Douglas does not have the ability to banter in a discussion. I'm sorry to anyone who enjoys her but "uh-huh" and "ok" and "hee hee giggle giggle" does not mean that she can hold a discussion or add anything to a discussion.

As a Barsky fan you don't want to hear from, give the man a break! He's been off the air for the better part of 2 years, of course he is going to be rusty. Now, if after 2 or 3 weeks he doesn't shake the rust, then he by all means, deserves any critism thrown his way.

Kim is an odd story. I had the pleasure of interning for her back at y100 and she is definitely a smart cookie and she can definitely hold her own with Barsky, given the chance. For some reason, whenever she is with him, she turns into a chuckling mound of goo. I have to almost chalk it up to Barsky being so much of an influence that she can't get a word in edgewise.

To be fair, last week sucked. When I heard Barsky was back, I immediately jumped in and took a listen. However, I was soon back to my XM radio.

I almost want to parallel this to O&A. I had never listened to them before they got to XM but gave em a shot. They totally sucked at first, and fully copped to it, They did get better after a few weeks and I think we need to give the same lattitude to Barsky.
