Midday With Trey & BK Ending Tuesday

I’m listening to “Midday with Trey & BK” which is a sports show hosted by Trey Elling and Brad Kellner on 104.9 MHz “The Horn” every weekday from 11 AM to 1 PM.

They are saying that Tuesday will be the last day of their program. They will announce more details on Monday and Tuesday. They said they are not leaving the station but changing some things.

This is a copy and paste from the 1049 The Horn website of the new schedule:

Monday – Friday Weekday Lineup

6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Bucky Godbolt & Erin Hogan

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Craig Way with Jeff Howe

12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Chad Hastings & Trey Elling

3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Kevin Dunn, Rod Babers, Brad Kellner

Hey Longhorn,

This is my opinion. (Hopefully, someone that actually knows the radio business will post a reply to your question.)

I would think that local programming has more listeners than national programming in a city that does not have a major sport pro team.

They are providing local programming throughout the day, and, in addition to that, are the official flagship station of the University of Texas Athletics.

That is the reason, I think, that they are trying to fill the day with live/local on-air talent. I think more listeners want to know what is going on around here instead of some other places with national sports-talk.

I think you and I discussed this many years ago, probably over 10 years ago, and I remember that you liked national shows and I liked local shows.

My feeling is that they gain mores listeners with local programs.

Interesting they are breaking up Chad and Kevin who had been together for so long. Interesting thoughts on the local or national slant. I agree with what you stated, but do wander in times of national news such as Coronavirus, do listeners gravitate over to the national syndicated shows or still listen to the local guys (where they can call and participate.)

I think it is more interesting that they don't have Trey Elling and Kevin Dunn together because they have been friends for a long time and are friends (hang out together) off the air. Maybe there is some reasoning as to personality type or sports knowledge in the grouping.
