Middays on 97.1

Sherri Sexton is on middays on 97.1 ... Is that the Sherri Sexton who use to be on KDF when it was Classic Rock???

Yes, she is the same Sherri Sexton that was on KDF back in the days of Rock, before they went country. She also did weekends on Star 97 before they went to Oldies two years ago.

Yeah, they're throwing Nashville a bone, trying hard to get us to like them. They guy that left says they're in trouble.

Everytime I've been in town to listen, they are just terrible. "Bob and Tom all morning, and who cares about the rest of the day." And who cares about Bob and Tom?

97.1 is just awful radio. Who's the current PD and why does he or she still have a job?

The PD is not to blame, apparently it was a corporate/group decision to change the station in the ways it has been changed in the past year. The PD has been doing what he's told, and at the least is a good employee for following orders. It's the higher-ups who should be getting the heat for this one.

From the outside looking in, it's my opionion this cluster is trying to operate 1 or 2 stations too many. They seem to know what to do with three of their stations, but just can't seem to make the others work. They need to focus on their core stations and sell off 1 or 2.

The BIGGEST problem is that when you have mediocre programmers like Jan Jeffries & Jim Kennedy calling the shots, you're doomed for failure....They were handed an aging, but still viable format with Oldies and they STILL found a way to screw it up..even though the demos weren't great, they were still the best numbers they've had..

Even though the flip to Classic hits was'nt too bright (why would you want to be the 4th rock station in the market?) I wouldn't let the PD off the hook too easily..the audio, the imaging, and the air staff are a mess, and that's his area..

One of the best features of the station was the "Deep cuts" program that aired on Sunday evenings. I know there were a few of us loyal Deep Cuts fans in Nashville.

I know I am gonna PO some radio people in here, but I think they will get over it and might even privately agree. lol
Why should we expect something better from corporate radio? The Deep cuts program was the best thing that station had going for it. I know I know, it probably was not getting good ratings was it? Not unlike the rest of the time huh?

Better radio? We can hope, but

Not gonna happen folks.

With which I am told he is doing the best he can with the money he has to work with. Which, by the way, isn't much.

I never thought we'd see the day of such non-performance from a radio company in this city.
Funny how SCC can have clean sounding top-rated stations and they're a small group and Crumulus
doesn't "have the budget" to put out a decently run, tight format. The big con-glom's are single
handedly killing radio listenership, after paying ridiculous prices for these stations and cost cutting
promotions and imaging to save money and yet they expect advertising to increase? Mix and Jack
are full and whatever name 97.1 is this week has three spots and hour and that's ok?

Maybe Cumulus is secretly investing in XM and they are trying to alienate us from FM. ;D If I had to listen to 97.1 all the time, it would do the trick.

One more thought - 105.9 The Rock sounds better all the time, especially compared to 97.1. It's amazing that 97.1 had something unique going on when they got into Oldies and just sucked the air right out of it.

I'm thinking the Buzz had to be pretty happy to lose Bob & Tom - Free Beer and Hot Wings is a much better fit for the station and I find myself listening to them more and more lately.

By hanging on to Bob & Tom, the Buzz was beginning to lose its audience. It's a move they really needed to make even if it hadn't been made for them. Free Beer and Hot Wings skews more to the 18-34 audience they want to reach. Bob & Tom was skewing more to dirty old men. The deed was done without hurting the Buzz much at all in the end.

I'm reminded of the guy who had a bunch of trash he couldn't get picked up, so he put it outside of his house in a large, nicely gift-wrapped box. I'm sure the people that were fooled into grabbing that box thought they were stealing something worthwhile as well.
