I don't live in Pittsburgh but read on Allaccess that Q 92.9 was looking to fill middays. Is that still the case? Anybody know why there was an opening in the first place?

K.U. Inthecitee was let go for Rob O'Jock---but he was let go too, hence the vacancy.

Yeah...that doesn't really help me understand the situation, though. But thanks for the response.

Any word on what they are doing in middays yet? Will they hire someone, go jockless, vt or something else?

Ill agree with you parttimer, but some place else would be incredibly stupid not to pick Merkel up and fast. Theresa, too. Now that Keith Clarke is gone over at CBS and they can breath a sigh of real radio, maybe the CBS gang can get a real morning show with Merkel and Theresa.

I'm curious. I've been living outside of Pittsburgh for goin on three years, and never listened to Merkel when I lived there. How much of a following did he have with younger demographics? How much of an audience of advertiser desired listeners would he bring with him? I'm not trying to make a point, these aren't rhetorical questions, I genuinely don't know if he'd be an asset at attracting the kind of money demographics stations are looking for. Would he draw young listeners, or would hiring him be like putting Bogut and Chilly Billy on WJAS to hang on to the old ladies?

HOW ABOUT MERKEL TO 620

Did you see the previous post about his voiceover business?

I'm one of "Chilly Billy's old Fillies' who can barely read the screen for the internets

I think anyone can attract the right listeners as long as they're RELATABLE. Merkel has held his gig as long as he had because he's just that, and he's one of the few genuine people in this business that's the same on and off the air. He lives in the same neighborhood as my brother in law in Adams Township (Mars area, Butler County), and I've yet to meet someone with anything bad to say about him. But I would look for a female talent to fill that midday slot.

Jack Wheeler was one of the most miserable SOBs ever, much loathed by co-workers at multiple workplaces. Yet he had a long and successful career in radio.
