Anyone have a clue who this might be? I heard them at 7:30 AM CST on Monday Febuary 11. I'm in north Alabama

It shouldn't be transatlantic at that time of day. That would eliminate the North African blowtorches.

There's a decent sized Kurdish population in Nashville. It could be coming from up there. The Detroit area has large Arab population, that's a possibility to check out and Minneapolis has a sizable Somali community.

Of course there's the rare chance you got nailed by some greyline propagation from the other side of the world, but that would be a longshot.

It's got to be coming from the US or Canada, since it's in pretty solid at about the same time everyday. I just never heard it until 2 weeks or so back. It covers WHO i'd say 80% of the time. ?????

Have you checked the WRTH?

I hear a station from New Jersey on 1680 in the late afternoons. (I can't remember the call) Basically it's group of different ethnic communities sharing station time. If you heard it at one time of the day you'd swear it was Dominican and at another,East Indian. It drove me nuts the spring of '05 until I got a solid id and heard a programming transition.

I wonder if you've run across one of those?

The 1680 from New Jersey is WTTM which was an east indian flavoured station until November of 2005, after that it was moved from Edison to Lindonwold, and is predominantly spanish leased time except for a few hours on Sunday when it's Portuguese.

We do have a good-sized Kurdish population here but no radio station on 1040. Nothing on 1040 in Detroit or Minneapolis either. (all three cities have stations either local or nearby on 1030)

I really don't have any decent leads. What kind of radio? I'm wondering if your radio was exhibiting a spurious response to a shortwave station?

My radio is a Radio Shack DX-390(i'm not sure, and i'm at work, now) I've had it about 17 years. I heard the station again this AM, about 7:30 again. It was mixed in with WHO. It almost sounded like chinese music today and they did a break but I couldn't hear it over WHO. It is on 1040 not like on 1038 or 1042 Khz. ?????

I finally got an ID. WPBS Atlanta. Spice Radio. Look it up on Wikipedia
