MIDDLE TN 89.9 PIRATE

I know this is very area-specific...but someone is broadcasting big band/30's music on 89.9...
audible across parts of Nashville. very limited talk...pseudo ID is "FM 89.9 WBAL...the ballroom dancing station". really? I've posted some reception details on the Nashville board (along with a few other posters). guess the demand for "ballroom dance" is higher than I realized...

anyone else in the area heard this one? curious as to the location...

This station is saying "WBAL"? It must be a pirate.

I'm not in the Nashville area, but there is a WBAL in Baltimore--an AM news/talk station.

This station is no doubt a pirate, but the call letters have nothing to do with it. The same call letters can be used on an FM station and an AM station, even in different markets.

For example, WBEN - --- AM is in Buffalo (930), FM is in Philadelphia (95.7).

I'm aware of the use of WBAL in Baltimore (AM and TV)...found no licensed WBAL-FM...
can't imagine someone with an low power FM could purchase the WBAL calls:
translation = pirate
just looking to find their location

So possibly is the FCC.

The FCC could care less, maybe they'll find it 6 months from now.

I wish we had a ballroom-dance pirate here in the NYC area, instead the dial is filled with minority pirates. At least Boston has 2 professional-sounding pirates, but NYC's pirates all sound bad.

"Nashville's new ballroom dance music leader, 89.9 WBAL"
"Nashville's #1 for all the ballroom dance hits, 89.9 WBAL"

I'll swing the big Winegard FM yagi around to the south and see what I can get.....it's only 480 miles.
I'd like to listen to a ballroom music station.

They definitely haven't appeared to care about the pirate station in the Lexington, TN area (about halfway between Memphis and Nashville) with conspiracy freaks that has been on and off for years, although it's been off in recent months when I'm in that area.

From what I hear they shut down only a very small percentage of the pirates in NYC & Miami.

from a post I added to the Nashville board re: the 89.9 Nashville pirate...

FWIW...I had to go to Inglewood on my way home tonight...strong signal on "The Ballroom Dance Station"
at 8th and Lafayette...picked up again on Woodland near LP...then suddenly...no more chattering or fading on Woodland
at Five Points. I was able to drive for many blocks in that area with a perfect full quieting stereo signal...which then
got noisy as I approached Eastland...and then rapid fading heading north on Gallatin Road. I think we have the location within
a few blocks. Lots of announcer talk tonight...backselling blocks of tunes...and talking up tunes, too. Really?
Verry chatty...with a VERY strong northern accent: imagine Archie Bunker growing up in Boston. And...I heard several drops from a Live365 1930's era dance feed...so he's also pirating the music from the web.

Maybe if you go up to their studios they'll give you a prize.

As a side note, there once was a WBAL-FM. It was before 97.9 went all fm news (NBC) and switched to the WIYY calls currently on 98 Rock. Just a side note rambling on.... :)
