Midnight Trucking Radio Network

Ok I think we all know it is obvious that 3WZ is moving in a direction that very well may hurt them than help them. 3WZ used to be the station the staple if you will of State College radio. Look around though more and more people are not listening...3WZ is not even being blasted though out the corridors of the Nittany Mall anymore and places where you used to hear 3WZ all the time are now playing the likes of B94.5, G101 (until last week), Joe, The Bus, and Majic to name just a few. So what has happened to 3WZ? Well there was a post not too long ago on here about the Stephanie Miller Show...(this chick is syndicated in the mornings no less?) Way to perky for me that early, and yet way to annoying at 10pm too. Then at 1am 3WZ goes and puts on the Midnight Trucking Radio Network, now I have to say I have been on the road the past couple nights early in the morning on my way back to State College and have listened and while I find the content of the show very topical and less political if you will then other talk shows, it is geared towards truckers and I'm not sure many are listening to the Stephanie Miller show...it is almost like they are yo-yoing the audience...throwing a dart at the board and what it sticks to is what the format will be...anyone else agree?

The metronome format's already taken in this area, but the 1khz tone format is open. "Z" had a nice polished sound for a long time. Now, it's just another audio quilt. And it's summer. No one needs quilts.

ACTUALLY...

There has been a couple of trucker's networks that were very good... on am they could exist instead of voicetracking. this would save programmers some stress
in programming 10pm-6am.

If there are any that still exist, they would need to sound like a Blair Garner ofr truckers. I drive cross country frequently... and it was better because the voicetracked stations lack alot things other than music.

Both of these shows that they are broadcasting are also available on XM. Perhaps they should try something more unique? I'd hire a local guy (even if it is voice-tracked) that can do entertaining bits between the songs overnight.

I haven't heard their morning show for some time, but if it is anything like it was several years ago, it is mostly talk. Considering the talk all night long and the morning show, that leaves only about 10 or 11 hours per day for music on a station that has always been about the most music.

My small brain can't figure out what they are attempting to do here. If I was Majic 99, I would tweak the playlist and go more AC, but most of all, really promote the fact that you can hear your favorite songs even if you work late or wake up early.

They could broadcast the sound of a metronome after 10pm and it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

Not just for 3WZ, but for any & every station in SC. The whole industry pulls zeros after 10pm. They could all simulcast fingernails on a blackboard and no one would notice.

So the answer, AJ, is: nobody cares what they do at 3 in the morning. Get some sleep.

Ratingsgeek...We all know that the numbers are flawed in State College/Altoona...the truth is there are people listening at 3am...

I said the content was good, I like a talk show that isn't all about politics and it is great to hear from people all over this country and what they see on the road, it is enlightening...the question remains though, what exactly does the Z hope to pull off here? Stephanie Miller to this is not even close except for the fact that they are both talk shows...

Sounds to me like they might be the first FM TALK station coming to the State College market.

WPGB FM 104.7 here in Pittsburgh started the same way, and now they are talk 24/7.

KDKA AM I believe just picked up the midnight trucker for overnights also.

Clang...you are right there is a rumor that they will be all talk by the end of the year but no one can confirm or deny the rumor

Or they're just trying to attract new/different cume during times when their regular listeners wouldn't listen if you put a gun to their heads.

If you can get a new listener to change one of their pre-sets to your station, there's the chance they might punch it. Gotta get them in the door before they can rack up any TSL.

Ain't rocket surgery.

Have you listened to the Z lately...Rihanna and Doobie Brothers back to back...seriously something is a miss!
