Cavanah, the program director of WBBM-FM (96.3), is another believer in the inevitability of the CD's extinction.

"I predict that in five years, the majority of music buyers will receive their purchases digitally," he said. "As a matter of fact, at B-96, we already receive most of the songs we play in MP3 form. CDs are an afterthought these days; it's much easier and more practical to listen to an MP3 that we receive from an artist or management company and send it to the studio to air."

Aside...from their music selection....I happen to think they sound quality is Incredible on the air. I think when you think MP3,s you think...... broken song files which have been through 100's of people in Kazaa before reaching its listener. Thats not what Professional Radio stations get their music from.

Yeah, your right, Broken down shared music files is exactly what I was talking about.

sounds like

Lord I hope that they would at least accept .wav files, MP3s sound like ass, even 320 sounds sub par, but then again streaming Internet radio sounds like ass anyways, even at "high quality". I am sure 5 years from now that will be rectified.

You would thing Commercial radio would like to accept .wav files or .aif

Re: sounds like

It's also sad that we still use the outdated mp3 format. There's better stuff out there, but it also doesn't have as much compatibility. Also with all the large hard drives now space isn't such a concern.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: sounds like

Well im sure they accept them, but do you know how much bandwith you would need to mass distribute a WAv file? bandwith is very expensive. Look at it from the Label and Indie artist point of view. It's actually helping Dance. For the first time ... most new Dance music is actually "findable" through online purchase.

Now we have AAC plus 5.1 surround ( the next generation of MP3). ... these files are even MORE compressed, yet sound much better.
