Midwest Communications buys South Central

Just saw info on the deal today. Apparently the rumoured sale to Summit Media fell through & the new buyer is Midwest Communications. They own around 60 stations, mainly in the upper midwest (WI, MN, ND, IL, etc). Wonder what, if any, changes this will bring with the Knoxville properties?

Hard to say. I know him by reputation only, but I've heard Duke Wright is a good guy. Plus, most South Central stations are already pretty lean in terms of their operations. So, I can't see Midwest going on a slash-and-burn strategy.

Yeah, & South Central's stations seem to be already pretty much covering the formats they need to he in. Other than minor programming tweaks, I would expect B97.5 & IMZ to stay the same. Don't know about 95.7's active rock format. I would personally prefer an alternative station, but for this market, active rock probably makes more ratings sense. I wonder if Midwest will look to add an additional signal. Doubt Pirkle will sell 94.3 this soon, but I wonder if Midwest would be interested in any of the locally owned, rimshot signals (106.1, 105.3, 96.7, etc.) Although each has signal limitations, so don't know if they'd be interested or not. I'd like to see something change & liven up the market. I think the 106.1 signal is decent enough that it should be performing better. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what they do in the market.
