Might be time for CBS radio to update their PSA's

Listening to wip while doing a quick run to wawa, and as often during the overnight a PSA about volunteering came on. It was the one with John Glenn talking to kids about being in space, then Bob Dole boring kids. Its on all the time, but ussally I ignore it...until tonight. Anyway, then a voice over guy comes on talking about the importance of volunteering or whatever when all of a sudden I hear "join President Bush's call..." Then at the very end Bush's voice comes on with his whole "when you help your neighbors, you help your country" slogan he would use in these types of public awareness ads.

So since we're about 13 days from this ad being a full year out of date, maybe CBS radio should get some new ones. I'm sure Obama has recorded some PSA's of his own by now.

Wow, a station playing a PSA referring to President Bush in the year 2010? Someone alert the Huffington Post! ;D

Seriously though, there are several outdated elements in CBS' broadcasting reservoir. Take the stream for WPHT, for example. Moreso, the content that appears on the streaming player for WPHT. Every single time I log onto this player, one of the very first banners that shows up is one promoting Michael Smerconish's interview with "Republican Presidential candidate John McCain." Yes, the candidate for an election that has taken place more than fourteen months ago! There is still a promotion for an interview with the runner-up in this election. This, despite the fact that Smerconish did that live interview with President Obama at the White House that received media attention... One would think they'd replace the Smerconish/McCain interview banner with one promoting Smerconish holding the very first interview with Obama live from the White House. There are also banners that refer to Obama and McCain's stances on certain issues; these, of course, were more relevant at the height of the 2008 election, and are thus no longer necessary, IMHO.

But it's not just politics. In fact, if you keep looking at the rotating banners on the WPHT streaming player, you can still find one promoting "1210 Tonight with Anthony Mazzarelli - Weekdays 6 PM to 9 PM"! I believe there is even one for "The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly" that has yet to be replaced! How long has that guy been off the radio now?

In all fairness, there are links to current stories mixed in with all of the other obsolete content on the player. But somebody seriously needs to clean that thing out. Go to the link to that streaming player above, and within the first minute, you'll be treated to a link to Smerconish's interview with McCain from two years ago. It never fails.

Update: Someone at CBS Radio/Philadelphia must be reading this board.

I've noticed that over the past week or so, the rotating banner feed for WPHT's player has been turned off, showing only the station logo during programming (outside of commercial breaks, of course). Today, however, the banner feed has resumed. And while many may deem my monitoring the feed for ten minutes as pathetic, I am happy to report that during that ten-minute interval, all of the obsolete banners referred to in the above post have been removed. That's right: no more placards on where Obama and McCain stand on issues, now that the election is behind us; no more promotion of an interview with the also-ran of said election; and best of all, no more plugs for defunct radio shows! Although I do recognize a few factoids from "oddball" stories like the Oklahoma man who stole pizza pans in an attempt to sell them for scrap metal, those have no time value. But the fact of the matter is, the banners that are no longer relevant - and have not been for most of the last year - are no longer being displayed.
