XENK is not ESNE Catholic, it's still the same nostalgic music format, and still owned by RASA. The writer of this blog says 2 unknown guys from Tijuana bought the station. That was the only info provided when it was written back in January. So none of this makes sense. In Mexico, religious associations (a type of incorporated society) cannot own broadcast stations, either on their own or through an intermediary. Nor can religious ministers (who are registered with the government).
Technically, permission from RTC is needed to air religious programming on any station, but for the last decade or so, this has been a pass-through with no real bite.
That has not prevented stations from
Remember, this is a station that has been leased and not directly operated for many years, so another lessee makes sense.
- Leasing their entire airtime to religious associations, which avoids the ownership issue. (Commonly these are commercial AMs)
- Grupo ACIR did this with XEL-AM Mexico City, which fell apart when the IFT determined that the application to sell the station was to an intermediary.
- Two Tijuana men now own XENK-AM Mexico City, which flipped to ESNE Radio programming at the start of the year.
- Being awarded to individuals and turning up as religious stations, sometimes in highly related ownership. (Commonly non-commercial social FMs)
- Sometimes these are in the community and indigenous services!
- Being awarded to civil societies and turning up as religious stations
- In some cases, to known concessionaires with ties to religious groups. (That station wound up having a strange history in just a few years)
- Successfully applying to program, on their own, a new subchannel whose name and logo are a trademark held by the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God
And there's 1040 KURS ESNE Spanish Catholic. Add to that the multitude of signals doing Christian English/Spanish. So yeah, there is a lot of soul saving going on here in San Diego.San Diego radio fulltime:

According to Wikipedia, KFSD Escondido 1450 is off the air. 1000 KCEO Relevant Radio is English-language Catholic programming so not really a competitor to XEPRS.San Diego radio fulltime:

According to Wikipedia, KFSD Escondido 1450 is off the air.
Apparently the Wiki article has been recently amended, it says: "The station is on the air May, 2021".As usual, Wikipedia is wrong. KFSD resumed operation from its last silent STA on May 20, 2020.

KFSD is English as well. Who runs Guadalupe Radio, on 87.7 FM? Is that also Spanish Catholic? So, if you add those and AM 1090 after tomorrow, that's two English Catholic broadcasters that are mostly relegated to North County, and three Spanish Catholic broadcasters in South County.
I also heard a rumor this morning that XEWW/690 might be interested in returning to English sports, likely filling the ESPN hole vacated by 1090, unless one of the other two sports stations snaps that up. Isn't there also TUDN, a Spanish sports network?
Ooops!Signal Geek had already reported that two posts before yours.
1700 XEPE is now a TUDN affiliate. Last time I checked XEWW was silent, so something could be happening there.KFSD is English as well. Who runs Guadalupe Radio, on 87.7 FM? I didn't know about XEPE. Thank you. I was scanning the AM dial today and 690 was on-air in Spanish (talk or news format - my understanding of Spanish is not the greatest, save taking some Spanish classes in high school and college and the few months I worked at Z-90 in the Tijuana facility in 1989.)1700 XEPE is now a TUDN affiliate. Maybe someone didn't read far enough into Wikipedia's history of 1450. Or possibly that section was just edited. As of this moment, it states "the station is on the air, May 2021."
I heard them today in Santee. The Spanish "Guadalupe Radio" is an old format which has since moved to FM 87.7 in Los Angeles and San Diego (two different stations on the same frequency). Here is their current website: Player which shows that the programming is on AM 1450 in Escondido as well as 93.7 in San Diego (I didn't know about that translator). It lists the language as "Spanish" and the format as "Spanish Catholic." But here on Radio Discussions, you say the station is on the air and airing English language Christian talk and teaching programs?
