Mighty 1090

On Christmas Day around 7:30 PM, I was hearing an oldies station calling themselves 'Mighty 1090'. They were playing Christmas music, but with a liner advertising 'Motown, Soul and Rock and Roll' so it sounded like an oldies station.

I heard this from Coldwater, MI.
______________

It's definitely 1090. My digital tuner wouldn't lie. It's still in at 8:55 PM
______________

Perhaps CKKW-Kitchener, Ontario?

XEPRS is the only station I know of using that slogan, and they're sports, so that wouldn't fit at all.

I'm getting 2 1090s in Kenosha, WI right now. One when I point my receiver north and another when I point it south. Both are playing Christmas music. I'll keep listening.
______________

I did a little work on Google and came up this info which should be helpful. Here's a copy & paste from a blog site written by somebody in the listening area.

"I reckon we should thank all those Northeast Tennessee and Sounthwest Virginia tithers to Appalachian Educational Communications Corporation d.b.a. WHCB FM for helping to finance Classic rock 'n roll Top 40 hits on WHGG "Mighty 1090" AM radio...not what I would consider to be either an "educational" or "Christian" radio format...."Motown, Soul, and Rock 'n Roll: The Mighty 1090"

Whoever they are, they're blasting into Memphis....sure doesn't sound like KAAY! I usually get a splash of them on 1090 and nothing else...

EDIT: Caught the legal ID...WHGG, Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol, the Mighty 1090!

And who says oldies stations aren't educational? I was born in 1975, oldies radio taught me half of what I know!
Edited by foreverchanges on 12/26/05 05:59 AM.

1090 in Greenwood, SC, WCZZ...used to be WMTY, has a bad habit of not signing off at sunset. Not sure this was them but they are 5KW daytime.

It was definatley WHGG, I taped it. They're 10KW, daytime only and forgot to shut themselves off.

Re: Mighty Ten Nineties (1090's) play Holiday Music

Well that makes two Mighty Ten Nineties (1090's) playing holiday music. Station #2 was XEPRS 1090 kHz 50kW Class A / DAN in Rosarita, MX. I noticed a few days ago either on Christmas day and/or Christmas even that they had holiday music. They normally have sports programming for San Diego. They say "The Mighty 1090." Their sister station is "Cash 1700."

They normally have sports programming for San Diego.

The XEPRS 1090 day signal is huge: listened Christmas Eve for
NFL scores...on the 5 outside Bakersfield!
