MIghty 1190-NOW?!?!

News is a very expensive format. It would take deep pockets for start up as well as keeping it going until break even if it would happen. It's not just a talking head reading copy you have to have a support staff to find the news. If you try to do it on a shoe string it will bite you in the ass if a major story happens and you miss it; there goes your credibility.

When they did it at WRR-AM it was not so expensive and the yhad reporters covering the area. It depends if there is a will to do it and the passion to support it. If you do it right,it can be profitable. The complacently of syndicated/satellite programming and its cheapness( and sounds cheap) has lulled the passion to sleep.

1190 is owned by CC but leased to First Broadcasting of Dallas which has absolutely no idea of programming. They are engineers plaing with the 1190 tower array

First hasn't LMA'd the station since the beginning of the year, and b: the engineers know perfectly well what they're doing with the array.

This is coming from a engineer who knows about 1190..trust me.

A) I thought 1st was till LMAing.....when did this change?? CC actually doing the programming on 1190? no wonder it sucks!
B) This engineer also knows about 1190....they havent done anything to the night array....but SHOULD have years ago..
BUT its not what they have done...its what they HAVENT done...like corrected the "null" toward WOWO..its supposed to be 3mV if I recall...last time it was checked with a FIM, it was 26mV thanks to a new cell tower in 1190's main pattern (the tower is just on the southern edge of the main lobe and sits due south of Rockwall)...
BUT CC could have opened the pattern up to the NW since they own KEX (mutual interference agreements are easier when you own both stations)....the 1190 in AZ got higher night power because of WOWO's downgrade...and CC at THAT time should have filed to redo Dallas' 1190 pattern to allow more signal over N Dallas/Plano, etc....but didn't...DUH!

Right now 1190 a mess. I'm here in the Longview area, and I noticed the daytime signal strength has been weak lately, like CC inst even running it on 50K anymore to save money on electricity.

I was listening to it today (just scanning the AM band) and in right the middle of one song the automation cut it off and started playing another song. To treat a 50K powerhouse like a 250w coffeepot daytimer is sad. Tighen up this classic country format so it sounds better, put on something else from the satellite, or just cut your losses and lower your asking price for 1190, and maybe someone will buy it.

Well, they cant run the station at less than 90% power legally....otherwise they have to notify the FCC..could be propogation or something else making it seem lower in signal...the daytime site is not the same as the 12tower night site..and SHOULD put a pretty good signal over Longview even at 5-10KW...

However, I agree with your statement on the programming.....They should lower the price, cut their losses and move on...holding on to a such a great signal is ridiculous.....

1190's signal has been strange here in East Texas..I was wondering if the daytime site had gone IBOC. I have also noticed they have backed off on the processing...it sounds a little brighter now and less "punchy".

With the resources and programming CC has there is no excuses for that station to sound the way it is. It just seems CC has given up on 1190, and are waiting for someone to buy it. But nobody wants to pay the price they want and mess with two tower sites with 16 towers and a pattern that they cant improve.

1190 Does not Have IBOC...
And im glad.. WOAI wouldnt come in so early in the Afternoons if it did

About an hour ago coming out of a commercial, I heard 1190 say something like "KFXR, CNN Headline News." Then the classic country jingle, and the usual music. What was up with that? ???

Sounds like the Completely Clueless Broadcasting Co. has gutted the remnants of a onetime beyond legendary radio station, about the only thing that they're really experts at doing.

Re: Mighty 1190-NOW?!?!

And so, here we are with a huge gappin' hole in this market for Classic Country music.

I find it hard to believe that a market this size doesn't have a slick sounding, well programed station with a Classic Country format! In my opinion, a well run, good sounding, LIVE station with that format could blow a bunch of the competition away. They might even get away with TSN or AP news once an hour. And, I think it would be an easy sell!

Isn't terrible what has happened to 1190! :'(

Jeff, you know the problem with 92.1! It can't make it past the Airport! Besides that, what is so slick, and good sounding about 92.1? The "morning show sucks", mid day isn't bad and their "drive home sucks", too!! It's a radio station from Glen Rose! I'm sorry, but that one doesn't count, just like 1120 AM, 1140 AM, and 1390 AM. They all play classic country in one form or another, but none of them have a good strong signal to "make the difference"!

Jay

Yeah, cut the price in half and Frishberg would probably buy it for BizRadio's new home.
