MIghty 1190-NOW?!?!

It's the audio from CNN Headline News, like you get on cable tv. That's why you hear them say things like, "take a look at this video."

Why is it still KFXR? That was like three formats ago. How hard is it to change call letters? To me, that would indicate some commitment to a format.

Yeah, it originally stood for F)oX) Sports R)adio.

Seems like the FCC got tired of stations arbitrarily flipping calls at the drop of a...format. So they imposed something like a $1,500 filing fee for such requests (whereas it had been FREE) and that seemed to make stations more apt to hold onto their calls. Not sure when this happened, but seems like it was in the early 1990s. Of course, stations still typically hire a specialized attorney to do the call letter searches, to make sure no one else has them in use, of course, but they can also pry into pending applications to make sure the same request isn't in limbo somewhere else.

Of course, it goes without saying that a station like 1190, which has been for sale for nearly 4 years now, would be hesitant to spend any money unnecessarily...knowing that a future owner will likely change the calls themselves (on their own tab) anyway. Me, I'd assume the calls could now stand for "F)iX)eR)-Upper."

Only partly true - yes, the FCC did impose a fee, but it's only $55. That's hardly an imposition, even for KFXR's bottom line. And there are still plenty of stations flopping calls around on a whim. (Check out the 92.9 LPFM in Gap, Pennsylvania for a real doozy.)

The FCC no longer keeps its records filed by callsign. Stations get a "facility ID number," which never changes, and that's how the FCC records are maintained. The callsign is basically a vanity thing these days.

I actually liked the old country music, better than the new country crap on FM. I'll be glad when that craze runs its course so country can be country again, instead of watered down rock with screechy fiddles & electric guitars instead of steel guitars.

As for the callsign, they should go with the callsign KBHL - kan't be heard locally.

The "craze" has been around for decades, so I doubt it's going anywhere. You can go back to as far as the late 70's and find songs like this. The Devil Went Down To Georgia is a good example, off the top of my head.

Even an oldies station with Charlie Van Dyke in morning drive would be much better than this CNN drivel.

THANK YOU!!

Amen!

I liked the 'Rock n Roldies' format they had about three years ago. I heard so many songs I hadn't heard in years.

It seems like with just a little effort, so much could be done with this station. But what do I know; I don't work in the business. I must not have a grasp on the big picture. Just another frustrated listener.

And I don't understand why Clear Channel is hopping in bed with Liberal leaning CNN. It's just as bad as running Fox sports, which paid little attention to Texas sports.

1190 will probably lose that 0.4 they had in 12+.

Because it probably costs Clear Channel 5 cents (a nickel) less a year to go with CNN.

God forbid they should go with something other than conservative let's put down the democrat.. "they're bad' ..."bad"...beat up Hillary and make sure you pronouce Barracks Middle name and stretch the syllables on it. There is enough anal elements like rush, sean and boortz. The three stooges of misinformation.
I rather hear from BOTHSIDES thank you very much.

Besides, Rush and Hannity are CC employed anyway (I dont think Boortz is).....but they're on other stations already...otherwise, CC would have them....on MOST CC AMs, that's where you find Rush loudmouth and Sean combover...except Chicago where WLS has them but then does CC have any AMs in Chicago??.....(I loved hearing John Records Landeckers rip on Hannity during the Big89 Rewind...and also for those listening to the stream, when Jay Philpott, formerly of KZPS, did the legal ID during Chris Sheibel's show, Chris off air said "Hey you made Sean Hannity sound like a weanie"...because a Hannity promo ran right after that but only over the air..down the stream, the board op forgot to mute Sheibel's mic and the comment can be heard under a PSA...oh what fun! :)

Rush's show is owned by Clear Channel's Premiere. Sean however, is a product of ABC. Boortz show is syndicated by Jones/Cox.

Between approximately 8:50 and 9:02am this morning KFXR ran 12 consecutive minutes of commercials and PSA's. I heard two of the same PSA's twice and one FOUR times. They also did their legal ID twice. No normal person would continue listening to this, but I was curious how long this marathon would go on. When it finally ended, it joined CNN in the middle of a story.

Are they trying to be bad? Are they deliberately going for zero ratings? What is going on?

Idk They lost me when they Flipped From Mighty 1190 a couple years ago...
And now completely lost me when they flipped from country....
Now its all about LONESTAR 8)

Sounds like the automation computer has a mind of its own.

It's too bad that you can't hear WLS any more. All I hear is Radio Saigon or whatever it is from the Mabank station. I don't think that station powers down at night like it's supposed to. I heard the PSA marathon on 1190 yesterday too. There is also a lot of silence. Andy is right. The automation system must be bezerk.

It's KTXV. I started a thread about that last week and it's still going on.

Well, I missed that. I've caught several cases of 30-second or one minute silence, but what's equally surprising is the number of local spots. Gotta be trade, bonuses or something, because nobody in their right mind would buy time on this loser.
