Migration of AM's to FM in Mexico: XERF

VERY interesting & appreciated.

I see another big AM on that list, XEWA-540 San Luis Potosi going to 103.9 with 25kw.

They seem to be creating a fair number of duplicate callsigns, FM vs. TV. XHRCG (CD. ACUÑA) for one among many. I suppose they all officially have the -FM or -TV suffixes.

Are they done assigning FMs? (can one assume any AM station that doesn't show a FM listing will remain on AM?)

I note a few of these state that they aren't frequency changes for the AMs, but additional frequencies for the AMs. XHCAM/XECAM Campeche, for example.

This link shows the changes in AM to FM by 90% of all Mexican AM stations.

One very interesting one is to be found under the state of Coahuila, where XERF-1570 is migrating to FM only, and the 1570 operation will be closed after a transition period.

Existing AMs are at

... but all but about 125 of these will disappear and not be relicensed.

If XERF does make the transition to FM and IF they relinquish the 150KW-250KW allocation that would allow a few 1570 US frequencies to up their night-time power. A good thing for the few former Class D stations with flea power at night.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out in the long term...
However I will miss the faint echo of "Your good neighbor along the way"

Mexico will retain the allocation of 540 and 1570, meaning that, just like Canada's policy, they will protect from additional usage the channels assigned them by NARBA

Well it does make sense..
I was hoping for some relief for some of the flea powered stations running on 1570 at night with "flashlight" power levels... Back to the drawing board :-\

Thanks as always

Wolfman Jack has to be spinning in his grave.

XERF... Used to listen to it in VA back in the 60's...
