Mike Brown of FEMA

Just wonder what any of you from La. think about Mike Brown of FEMA, who said on CNN Thursday Night 9/1 7:20pm .. QUOTE, "The Government was not aware of the situation at the Superdome until today."

I don't believe it. Where is the Gov. of La.? Where is Bush? Where is Ray N.?

I think Brown said that they were not aware of the situation at the Convention Center, but regardless, the response has been appalling.

Sunday, prior to the storm hitting, Bush had a quick TV photo op which was alledgedly to address the potential seriousness of the storm, but quickly became an opportunity to resell the Iraq war. He is incompetant, reckless, and is leading the country to bankruptcy.

Well, here is what the mayor of New Orleans told the media earlier tonight:

"I am goddamned pissed. What the hell is that man in Washington doing? The only damned thing that man in the White House has done in this whole crisis is sending one great general down here who told people to get their damned asses in gear and stop screwing around. This is goddamned crazy. I got thousands of people down here who are starving and these jerks in Washington are sitting in their damned air conditioned offices and saying look at those poor black people, screw em. The (BLEEP) from FEMA is about as useful as fleas on a dog. That man needs to go work somewhere else. Homeland Security should be called White Homeland Security because they don't care about our people."

"Where the hell is FEMA. Where the hell are the busses? Every goddamned Greyhound bus in the country should be driving to New Orleans. And this (BLEEP) Hastert should just shut his mouth. Who the hell is this jerk to sit on his ass and tell the people of New Orleans that ... well, why should we rebuild New Orleans. If his lily white country club friends were in peril, you'd bet your ass they'd have their butts in gear. But no. These jerks are doing TV interviews and spinning and mugging for the cameras. Bush goes on TV, like he cares about us poor folk down here, and says he's doing all he can. Like accepting some guitar from some country singer while our people are drowning. I'm surprised he quit his brush clearing."

"I'll tell you what. If it wasn't for CNN and the other media, we'd all be dead. There are more reporters down here than FEMA. I'd give that Jeanne Meserve woman a damn medal because she's done more for our people than damned FEMA. We need the army. We need the generals. We don't need more stupid politicians coming down here to make speeches. Don't come here unless you got troops or help with you. We don't want you here."

This is America's third (at least) opportunity to witness the incompetency of the George W. Bush administration (with the other two occasions being the aftermath of the invasion of Iraq and the immediate aftermath of the Tsunami last Winter), yet his cult-like Republican base is either unable or unwilling to recognize it.

Ok, now let's start blaming Bush for the hurricane. What should he have done - tried to drag a net behind Air Force One to move the storm back out to sea? Give me a break. Let's just review some FACTS:

- everyone was urged to evacuate before the storm hit. Most did - those who didn't have a problem

- if every Greyhound bus in the country drove to New Orleans what good would it do - most of the highways are broken, flooded etc. with no way to get the buses where they need to be

- the idiots who started shooting at the rescue workers trying to evacuate the superdome really aided the evacuation

- the looters who just caused 1500 police officers to be diverted from rescue efforts to law enforcement

- FEMA is spending 500 million a DAY on this already!

- I watched some just rescued residents of New Orleans on Fox News demanding food, water, etc. Again, maybe they should have left BEFORE the storm hit. Maybe they should start walking and stop complaining - the tsunami victims last year didn't even get a chance to complain. Maybe they should be grateful they survived and grateful that the rest of us are supporting the Red Cross, Salvation Army and paying taxes that will bail them out.

Frankly, from the reports coming out today of looting, shooting and other violence from those remaining in New Orleans, I would say it is time to declare martial law in that city - shoot to kill anyone acting up - and divert the police back to rescue efforts.

Maybe all these "folks" (as O'Reilly would call them) didn't own a brand new SUV or F-150 full of enough gas to get them to a nice hotel in Dallas. The fact that you refer to "FOX News" says it all. No bias there, huh?????

You only confirm the insensitivity that the "right" so proudly confuses with patriotism.

I think the thing this says more than anything else is the frustration level is extreme. The mobs with torches are also out to get the Democratic governor of Louisiana too, so it's bi-partisan.

No one is blaming bush for the hurricane... come on... don't spin it...
Bush is doing a lot of talking... as always...all talk..
FEMA and The Army/Guard should have been in New Orleans a long time ago...
Money was made available for work on the levee by the corp. of engineers. Who stopped the work.... Mr. Bush!... Look it up... maybe you can find the story on the Bush channel... I mean Fox news channel.
Edited by SKIPPER on 09/02/05 03:43 AM.

He said he didn't know about the situation at the convention center, not the superdome. At the couple interviews I saw he said convention center, and didn't say superdome. Either way though, it's absolutely horrible. People were told to go to the convention center and supplies weren't there.

On tuesday you got Bush in San Diego talking about Iraq. He should have been at the superdome (and/or the convention center) on tuesday or wednesday with a bullhorn (like after sept. 11) telling everyone help was on the way. Or if not Bush, somebody, anybody in power.

Perception is everything. The current perception is that a lot of people feel abandoned. But you got to understand that conditions are absolutely horrible for police, FEMA, troops, etc. Streets are under 8 ft. of water. There's little if any communication in New Orleans. And it goes on and on.

Is it very difficult to get supplies into New Orleans, and get them moved around? Yes. Could more have been done sooner? Yes

Some stayed cause they've been thru hurricanes like this already and feel safer trying to survive this (espcially with the choice of being at your home during a storm or surviving the storm in your car like the last storm), others as you said couldn't afford to leave or commitments got them here....

But yeah something should have been done about the gangland warfare starting on the streets, but when video shows police in full gun belt driving the buggy while others are looting around them and they are doing it too.. That is one of the problems right there...

Also look again at the colors coming out of New Orleans... It's all, black,White,Hispanic,Indian and Asian wanting out of there....

While I can understand his frustration, its hard to drive a bus over a road that isn't there or is flooded severely. And some of the people presently in New Orleans would probably attack the buses as well.

They need engineers, construction people, etc. But they first of all need the streets to be controlled. That means martial law, and shoot to kill orders for looters or other miscreants. I sense a reluctance on the part of the mayor and Louisiana governor to follow through with that directive. Why is that?

Well, please don't bus the criminals elsewhere. Until you have martial law and shoot to kill orders, New Orleans will not be brought under control. The inmates are running the asylum.

Wow...

Well, first of all...we've known about this possible scenario for 40-plus years. Why didn't previous administrations, agencies, etc. do anything???

I'm not going to blame this administartion for something that others could have easily handled before, especially with terrorism and such and all the other stuff the administartion has been dealing with.

Where has congress been in the past as far as not appropriating money for levee build up, evacuation plans, etc.

Where has the American public been with this possible scenario?

We just don't have the resources or the man-power in our society to stop every fire in the universe of occuring.

Re: found on the Net, re: Mike Brown of FEMA

I found this on the Net, haven't substantiated it yet although it seems that if I follow the links long enough, it will play out to be the truth. I know, I know, seems is not good enough for broadcasting, but the story and leads are there for all and sundry, if anybody wants to follow up for their own reasons...it's not going to make anybody feel any better, though.
