Mike Elder to Fox!

Fox News Radio hires Mike Elder as Director of Talk Programming, and promotes Mitch Davis.
Mitch - who remains Managing Editor - becomes Director of News Programming, as former WRKO, WCCO and WLS programmer Mike Elder will work with Tony Snow and Alan Colmes, and looks to expand Fox's reach in talk.

Looks like you can now spell WRKO - T-I-T-A-N-I-C.
Head for the lifeboats...rats too.

Wish Mike Elder well. He was the one who brought back Jerry Williams for his last show weeks before Jerry died. That act put Jerry at peace that he could say good-bye and made up for the horendus treatment he received from the previous WRKO management and to be blunt, Howie Carr.

Good people leaving WRKO one after another.

Snow and Colmes not faring well in radio. Tough gig to take. Plus take orders from TV people who don't know jack about talk radio.

WRKO is losing a class act. Unfortunately, Mike Elder could not completely get the job done in Boston. He managed to upgrade the over all sound and presentation of the station, but never quite got the talent to match. They kept holding off doing major advertising until the sound and line-up was "right". While waiting for that "right" time, FM Talk proceeded to promote and eventually beat out RKO - especially in the younger demo's. If Fox gives Elder the resources, he will succeed. Best of luck, Mike - you deserve better.

Looks like you can now spell WRKO - T-I-T-A-N-I-C.

Will he hire VB to do nationwide talk radio? :) Snow and
Colmes aren't heard in Boston. Neither are Glenn Beck,
Thom Hartmann, Don and Mike, Phil Hendrie, etc.<P ID="signature">______________

Ratings keep going up. This is like saying the Red Sox are
getting worse and worse. Check the standings lately? Rats
deserting a FLOATING ship!

Agreed on that but radio can be a cruel bidness, folks. At least
Howie did a nice farewell-to-Jerry column. (But also did that snide
"My name is Howie Carr, not Father Time" remark too. It'll happen
to YOU someday, Howie! :)

"The Dean of Talk Radio," Jerry Williams, Departs WRKO

I talked with Jerry Williams yesterday and it's true, the father of talk radio is off the air. WRKO just told him not to report on the weekend, and he will not have a chance to say good-bye to that station's listeners.

There is nothing that anyone can do with 'RKO, which is now owned by people who don't know Jerry, don't know us, and don't care about the wonderful old-time talk radio that served us taxpayers so well in the '80's. Jerry has other offers and I'll let you know what he'll be doing.

Meanwhile, I've asked him to talk with Essex County at least on my November 20th WESX show.
