Mike Fleming OUT at WREC?

"Could WREC preparing to air CC Premiere Radio Networks host Randi Rhodes?"

Considering she probably couldn't get a .5 share in Memphis, I doubt if CC would do anything that foolish.

As I recall, she DIDN'T get anything near a .5 even with 680's 10 KW behind her.

They wouldn't be that dumb....would they? And pi$$ off the rest of 600s audience?

You didn't already reach the conclusion that CC IS that dumb? Gimme some of what you smokin' bro.

Anything is possible now. I think it may happen since CC just signed her on and need to distribute her to their stations. Looks like a slot may have come open.

Having her or a liberal host on may shut everyone up about the fairness doctrine.

Being a liberal, the only liberal hosts I can listen to are Mark Thompson (Sirius) and Rhandi. The others are not entertaining. Therefore I would welcome Randi to terrestrial radio but not at a cost of someone loosing their job.

Mike Fleming was my balance on the issues. I would turn off Sirius so I can get a different point of view. Mike was good at making me think from a different point of view, but still disagreed with him.

Mike, If you are gone, you will be missed. I enjoyed listening to you and wish you the best.

Pass.

Maybe Mike could go to Mt. Moriah and work for Dr. Flinn. Start another N/T format or something.
Mike, Thaddeus and other notables of Memphis.

While I rarely, if EVER, agreed with him, I hate seeing anyone canned in this economy. If we're going to hear someone on the radio, I'd rather that they be a local guy than some idiot hundreds of miles away. Once Clear Channel is done sucking what's listenable out of their stations, it'll be 5 people in San Antonio all day and all night.

Makes me sick.

Mike, it's been awhile, but we're all wishing you the best, whatever your next course of action will be.

And in case somebody runs into John Logan, here's a suggestion: If you and yours are having trouble running so many stations, perhaps you should consider selling a few of them? Or, perhaps, all of them? With rare exceptions, live-and-local is better for stations, and better for cities, than Bain's apparent goal of having 900 repeaters for a handful of programming.

I heard Andrew Clark Sr. on WREC yesterday, but didn't really think anything of it, since he's filled in for Mike before. I wasn't even aware of this until I heard someone call the Ben Ferguson show this morning and was upset over Mike being gone, if that is the case.

You didn't think this would happen, considering how popular Mike is in this area. But if they do something constructive with Mike's slot, there are several things they could do.

1) Maybe air the third hour of Sean Hannity, and then maybe a sports show from 5-7 hosted by Forrest Goodman. Only downside to this would be that there are already enough sports stations in Memphis.

2) Considering the shape of KWAM, consider buying back the rights to Glenn Beck in the 8-11 AM spot, and then move Ben Ferguson to the 4-7 PM slot.

3) Maybe Clear Channel will realize that they made a big mistake and bring Mike back, maybe for a small pay cut if need be.

But here's the best thing that could happen to WREC.....

Some rich independent should buy them away from the massive conglomerate known as Clear Channel, so that they can have a unique sound, like they did in the late 90s when they had Imus. Remember all those R E C acronyms they were running?

They just announced the new line-up for WREC radio:

Ben Ferguson 4 -7pm – beginning Monday (5/4/2009).

Jason Lewis (frequent Rush fill-in) 8am 11 am temporarily.

Glenn Beck 8 am – 11am - in a few weeks.

If you want to change the current status of radio...do something about it.
Stop listening, get your info on the internet, your cell phone, a blog...start you own blog is you have a need to express yourself. Don't support their advertisers, etc.

Technology has passed the AM band a long time ago. It's easy to blog, it's easy to get all the current info on your cell phone. Sirius/AM, internet, podcasts, all new technology.

Stop enabling those corporate bastards to continue to ruin a once important, once proud, once profitable industry.

Why. I believe the distant snap of a buggy whip can faintly be heard...

Tynosaur I respect your opinion but I hope you aren't correct. It is terrible to hear of anyone losing their job in this type of economy and I wish Mike the best. Although we were political opposites Mike was always a class act. He was and is the best dressed man in radio.

EMF's gotten that system perfected with KLove (and with almost no resistance). Why shouldn't others follow the precedent?
