MIKE FM, the new WILD

When a rock & roller can't get what is expected from rock radio -
AAF, BCN, FNX - those 3 stations letting us down - I'm inclined to find
stations that are enjoyable. (WZLX is beyond repetitive).

Mike FM played Jimmy Buffett (probably)live from Fenway Park - there were
some Boston references in there...Truro, etc. Margaritaville.com indeed.
Hey, I'm not a big Buffett fan, but it was entertaining to here a live
version - something different on the air.

WILD is fast becoming my favorite station. Walter Hawkins Singers with
some great Gospel music on Sunday - (son of? Edwin Hawkins Singers? Melanie's
LAY DOWN/Candles In The Rain fame) - excellent pop R & B, highly listenable.

With Oldies 1033.com and 93.3 going Christmas music, the rock stations
either boring or failing to play what we want to hear, MIKE FM and WILD are
becoming alternatives for pop fans.

just my thoughts for the day.

Joe, I'm a bit confused here. Thinking back to all of your previous posts(using many of the other user names you've had), I've had the impression that you were not a fan of OLDIES 103. Correct me if I wrong, if so, why do you care whether they play all christmas or not.

I thought oldies1033 was even more repertive. And the Christmas format is even worse.

How are they letting you down?

1)Who said my name is "Joe"

2)I happen to be a big fan of Oldies 103 - it's my favorite pre-set,
except for Christmastime

3)Shouldn't you be using your real name instead of one of the many
names you use here?

Oldies 103.3 is great. They and "The Coast" are off the dial till Christmas
week or after.

All 3 stations could be more user friendly. Same with ZLX. Stations used to interact more with the listeners, the events were more fun in the old days.
If one is going to force sub-standard music on the populace, driving an enormous amount of listeners to XM, SIRIUS and the web, they need to step up and be more fun in other areas. I'm disappointed Dave Wellington hasn't put some brio into 104.1. FNX could serve so many other better purposes, and AAF has too much static (as does Boston's Progressive Talk at night).

It isn't all that hard to be "user friendly". The creativity level across the board on commercial radio appears to be down. Sirius and XM may have a new customer very soon. But in the meantime, I'm really enjoying what WILD is putting on the air. MIKE FM as well. STARZ just turned me off.

Now that Oldies 103.3 is unlistenable (WHY do these stations go ALL Christmas?), alternatives are badly needed. And, one great one that I have found is WBOQ (North Shore 104.9). If you can get them, you'll hear an excellent community station with a deep playlist and Little Walter's Time Machine too! Real oldies too! All in all, a great little station!

Like you, I also like WILD-Fm (when I am within range). I do not understand the 4 hours of hip hop between the Urban/AC and the Quiet Storm, which seems to me to be a programming error. Nonetheless, it would still be my favorite Boston station if I could get them in the Nashua area. When further south, I do like 'em!

And, well, I don't like MIKE. In fact, I have been transitioning 93.7 off of my preset list - which was a vestige of the Star days. I wanted to like MIKE, but just can't. Too much music that i can find elsewhere - but don't try to. And, the lack of personality is just dull. Who knows, maybe I harbor a grudge over the assassination of Star, but just I can't get into it. So, MIKE is out for me.

TOTALLY agree

I totally agree with you about the 4 hours of hip hop. It's out of step with the rest of the station.
